not that I make a habit of reading mens health anything...but has anyone seen this article? http://www.menshealth.com/eatthis/20worst.html It lists the 20 worst foods in america, mostly restaurant offerings. I was really depressed to see how bad a chicken burrito is at chipotle. I knew that as its a big burrito it probably had more calories than I'd want....but seeing it was over the 1000 calorie mark was upsetting. Anyway, check it out if you want to know some foods to avoid when you're eating out.
Yep, I've seen that list -- I think it was published at the end of last year in some other magazine. Interesting that Men's Health has picked it up.
Chipotle didn't surprise me one bit. I looked up the nutritional info one day and haven't been back since. I can make a burrito the size I want it with more veggies and less salt and be far happier at home, having saved money to boot.
The #1 worst food is hilarious. Appetizer my butt!!
This scared me soo much. My husband and I used to frequent many of those restaurants and ATE those VERY THINGS LISTED. None of this "I have no idea how I got this fat" business from me...I got what I had coming!
I almost gagged when I read the part about the kid's macaroni meal being the equivalent of 1 1/2 boxes of Kraft Macaroni and cheese! Can you imagine! Good info! Thanks for sharing!
You know, many of these restauarants don't exist in Canada at all. I've never heard of Ruby Tuesdays or Chipotle. because of different food regulations, Taco Bell can't even make money here. We have 1 in Quebec - apparently our ground beef grade standards cause difficulty. I've never seen those chicken strips with ranch sauce at a McDonalds before, and my bf works at one.
We do have some Mom and Pop places that serve, like 1500 calorie omlettes, but that's well known.
We really should not only be aware of this for ourselves, but ask why companies are allowed to serve this. No food should have 2000 calories in it. No one should be eating below B grade meat. Our governemnt should be helping us by stopping this.
We have nearly all if not ALL of those restaurants -- and I live in the middle of an entertainment/dining district, and over half of them are in it. I've eaten 7 of those 20!! I always get the chocolate chip paradise pie at Chili's -- but I always share it or take some home because it's just too rich to eat in one setting. When I first ordered it, I KNEW it had TONS of calories. I estimated about 1200 before I looked it up and I was off by 400!!

I agree--- I've mentioned before about how Burger King sells that Quad STacker burger... it's ridiculous.... I don't care how thin you are--- NO ONE should be eating that. It shouldn't be legal to sell!
However, I disagree with Ella and have to say that my freakin' mouth is watering looking at all those grease-laden delicious foods... I'm not one of those people who stops craving "bad" foods or whose stomach shrinks when she's dieting... I want them NOW.
Ugh.. time to go eat my apple and try to stave off these cravings! I'm going out for dinner tonight and will be eating BADLY... so I have nothing to complain about here!
I had a friend who was dieting along with me back in the day--- she said she went out for pizza at Uno's and ordered a "personal pizza". She says she didn't realize how bad it was for you until she looked up the nutrition info online later--- she was like "GOD! It wasn't even that good!! For that many calories, I would have rather had fettucini alfredo and breadsticks from olive garden!!!"
You really wonder if all those calories are really needed to make things taste good. A few simple tweaks here and there and they could be serving WAY healthier food that tasted quite the same. ::sigh::

Hear, hear. The Ruby Tuesday's one offends me the most - clearly, they are marketing that turkey burger to people who want a healthier options, only.. they didn't bother to make it any healthier. It is so hard to make halthy choices when eating out, we shouldn't have to deal with duplicitous restaurants playing bait and switch.
Anyone ever ordered the weight watchers meals at Applebees? How much are you willing to bet that their kitchen staff actually uses the lower-fat stuff to make it and/or adheres to the requisite amount of dressing? I've had too much variation in those items to have any confidence that the cals they state are legit.
Or how about this - ever bought a muffin and assumed you were eating the calories printed on the wrapper? Chances are it actually had more. The gov't requires them to print the cals for the MINIMUM weight they guarantee, not the actual weight of the item. So the package may say it contains 2 servings, but it could actually contain 3, the company would be in total compliance, and you would have unwittingly eaten 50% more calories than you thought unless you weighed it. Sigh.
