Default What can you NOT eat after WLS?

I'm considering lap band surgery and was reading the post below about what foods were the most difficult to give up. I was surprised to see sandwiches on the list! So I'm thinking you can't eat bread at all?

What are foods and drinks you can't ever have again? And is it ever, or not in the early stages?

I was told you can eventually have bread but toasted. I had RNY gastric bypass and was told that eventually I can eat just about anything in very small amounts.

Everyone is different and it depends on your level of restriction what you'll be able to tollerate.

My restriction is pretty much non-existant at this point...therefore, I can eat EVERYTHING. What seems to be the most difficult for LB patients is bread/crackers, rice, and meats (chicken and fish being easiest).

Its really an individual thing.

Default Bread!!!!

For the life of me, I can not eat bread. It balls up in there and just about kills me. I threw up one morning while we were eating breakfast and my 3 y/o granddaughter told her grandad not to let me have bread anymore. I really can eat just about anything, but chose not to. I still have a habit of eating too much at one time and not chewing it well and it goes down like a lead balloon.
I'm now on the hunt for a recipe for coarse, whole grain, low carb, low sugar, bread. Which so far have translated into hard brown lumps that taste like chew cardboard! I'm still on it. Found 10 grain cereal and my DH said the bread was like eating hard little pebbles. Am making a soy pizza crust for my family tomorrow; heard that you can have terrible lower digestive problems from soy if not careful....hmmmmm!

Nut's suggestion toasting it...supposed to crumble in the pouch instead of ball up.

I like sprouted bread? Ezickel is good, I'm hoping when I have an urge for a sandwich I can use it one day. Toasted for course.

We shall see!

Ang: I tried the Ezeikel and toasting the bread. Only part that I really can eat is the crust. I'm not doing breads on a regular basis and have tried it three times and same results. I am trying to come up with a recipe that will be coarser whole-grained that I can make on a regular basis for my DH. I'm slowly edging out all of his processed stuff over to whole grains and fresh. I made the Cornell University high protein bread with a couple of changes and it only had two TBSP of honey, but still plenty of carbs in the whole wheat flour. I've got to run it through my recipe nut. calculator. I also substituted some soy flour in it and ground flaxseed. DH like it; I tasted the crust!!!

I hear ya, I still haven't got past the "mashed banana, mashed banana" stage! It's only a dream.

Good luck with the Bread hunt! My daughter is switching everything over whole grains as is my father! See I am rubbing off on them.

i dont know if i can eat it or now. my dr said no carbs, no sugar so i wont have it till i reach 75% of my weight loss. sunday we went to chilis and i got a hamburger and normally i love bread and the way it looks and smells but i just put it to the side and ate the patty w/cheese. it was good.
