I'm just curious how you all feel about them. I'm a diet coke addict, and I have no idea if drinking it makes me hungrier or have other bad side effects.
Have people had success losing weight and drinking diet sodas? Or, did you lose weight more easily when you stopped drinking it?
I'm one who has lost weight while drinking diet soda. Though typically only 1-2 cans a day. It seems that people vary with regard to their response to it. You can always try to experiment and see how you feel with it and without it to check your own response. Good luck!
I think it's a very individual thing and the answers will vary greatly from person to person. Every ones' experience is different.
I personally didn't drink much diet soda, but certainly some. Maybe a couple of times a week. I tried to "save" it for the times when I was really munched. That would be my "snack".
The soda itself won't cause you to gain or keep you from losing weight. But if it causes you cravings and then you give into those cravings, well that would certainly be a problem.
Only one way to know for sure. You'll have to check it out and see how you react.
I don't drink diet drinks at all.
Personally, I don't think artificial sweeteners are all that great for you. Plus, they don't help you to 'unsweeten' your tongue. If you reduce sugars in your diet, you actually will become accustomed to having your foods less sweet - and that made it easier for *me* to lose weight. Drinking the diet sodas still give your mouth the sweet taste and can keep you craving it. Of course, all this is just opinions from my personal experiences.
I don't drink them regularly. But I keep some Diet A&W around in case I am having a sweet attack, it really helps satisfy my sweet tooth. I might drink a glass a week though.
I do use artificial sweeteners in other things though. I also don't think they're very good for you, but at this point I use them more than I would like to. I'm trying to switch over to agave nectar when possible.

Yeah, what she ^^ said. No artificial sweeteners, in anything, ever, for me.
Unfortunately, I drink way too much -- my nutritionist actually told me it was okay to drink the diet/caffeine free stuff instead of water, which I thought was odd. However, I was drinking the caffinated until it drove my blood pressure way up, so I went to diet/caff free.
I don't drink any sodas. I don't think artificial sweeteners are good for you to drink. I also avoid caffeine since I don't think it is good to drink either.
If I want some fizz, I may buy some club soda and mix it with some juice or something.
If it works with you during your weightloss then go ahead but I wouldn't go overboard drinking them ya know. I don't drink anything but water and V8 low sodium every now and then. I'm not really into sodas when I am losing weight because I probably couldn't stop at 1 and I won't take that chance
I know there's all sorts of "research" that say diet soda is going to be the cigarettes of future generations, as in "oh my god i can't believe you didn't know if was going to kill you" LOL, but that wasn't my reason to stop drinking it -- for me, diet coke went hand in hand with snacking! In the evenings I'd have my diet coke and chips, or diet coke and chocolate, so since I don't snack like that, i don't drink it.
I'd say I've had maybe 6 cans in the past 6 months, as a social drink out for dinner or something.
But I think anything to make it easier on you, go for it
I tend not to drink much diet soda - maybe I'll have some a couple of times a month. But for me, it's not because I'm opposed to artificial sweeteners. (I love them, actually.) It's because of the phosphoric acid in all sodas.
Phosphoric acid is known for leaching the calcium from the body. I am on Synthroid for my thyroid, which is also known for leaching calcium. I take calcium to help make sure the synthroid doesn't do damage, but I really don't want to take chances by adding another calcium absorbant in the mix. I want to keep my calcium in my bones!
I live on caffeine-free diet pepsi. I always have one open. Doesn't cause me any cravings and it certainly hasn't slowed my weightloss.
I think that once you've spent years being morbidly obese, some artificial sweetener is the least of your potential problems. To me it's a little like worrying about the paintjob in your stateroom on the Titanic. Just not going to be that important in the grand scheme of things.
I think it is where your concentration is at. For me, I am more concerned about my overall health than just my weight. I actually think that the obesity is the least of my concerns. Of course it is nice to lose weight but I want to do it how I feel is right for me.
I hate diet soda... I just can't drink it. I have regular soda from time to time, I actually stopped drinking it period for a few years and then got back on it again in Feb 2005. I haven't banned it completely, but it's definitely not something I drink every day or even every week.
