Default Success with SlimFast, #15, 02/09/2002

Okay....I guess we will just have to cheer each other on.

I really like using Slim Fast because it's so easy.

Actually, sometimes I wonder why have gained so much weight because I don't like cooking. I think it's because I went for the convienence or fast foods for some years and it all caught up with me.

I have heard that about hot, spicy food too.

I love cottage cheese with red pepper.

The big snow storm that was suppose to hit here today didn't so it has been a good day.

Denise Austin tips on snacking

1)When you feel hungry be sure you are drinking enough water. Sometime when you feel hungry you are actually thirsty. Also drinking water can help curb your appetite.

2)Distract yourself if you know you have eaten enough. Go for a 10 minute walk. The hunger urge is likely to go away.

3) If you get the munchies snack wisely. Grab some pretzels or other baked stuff or some fruit, don't always go for fried stuff. I personally love the Kettle Chips potato crisps, lightly salted and french onion flavors. I also do baked chips and salsa a lot.

4)If you need chocolate go for a tootsie roll. I actually eat the snack size 3 musketeers also. It is just big enough that if I eat slow and enjoy it, one will do me. So I get one bag and it costs a couple of bucks and lasts me like 2 or 3 months.

The point is, snacking is ok, if it helps you cut down on bingeing at meals or any other time. But there is no reason to not be eating healthy snacks or trying to drink some water.

Smile z00t

Slim Fast rocks...for two or three years I tried to lose weight by skipping breakfast, having practically nothing for lunch and then pigging out at dinner because I was so hungry I felt like I was going to pass out. The first weight loss adventure I went on with Slim Fast was an immediate success! Spreading out smaller meals and snacks throughout the day helped me drop 35 pounds on Slim Fast.

Now, a year later, I'm undertaking my next big step in weight loss and started the Slim Fast plan again on Tuesday. So far, so good!

Hi Sean glad to have you
Well i always try so hard to snack healthy. I know it helps me not pig out at meal times but some days I just seem to want to eat.
I lost about 13 pounds a week ago and nothing since. Seems like as soon as I loose I get the munchies really bad.
LLB you must have terrific self control. If I bought a whole bag of 3 muskateers I'd most likley eat the whole thing within a few days. I just can't even have it in the house at all. I know about being thirsty and thinking your hungary. happens to me a lot. I never drink enough if I am not at work. Being my day off I have not had much to drink and the munchies have been a problem. I did keep a bottle of water with me but still drank little of it.
Well gota go get ready for a Bible class. Happy loosin everyone!

Angry Woo Hoo! It finally works!

I've been lurking on these threads for a month trying to get my profile to work. I finally gave up on my first profile and started over, and now I can post!

What I love about Slim-fast is that I no longer need to take a multi-vitamin because I get 100% of the RDA from Slim-Fast and my foods. I've also noticed that my nails and hair are growing like crazy.

Somewhere on these message boards I found a link to fitday.com, I can't reccommend this site enough. It lets me track my food and exercise. I've noticed a big difference in my weight loss progress since I started using the site.

My question is this: My husband bought me digital scales for Valentine's Day and I seem to weigh more on these new scales that I did on regular scales. Has anyone else had this experience?

Also, does anyone else set aside 1 day a week where they eat anything they want without guilt? If so does it seem to work for them? I've been doing this, but I can't shake the guilty feeling.

Thanks,
Dyan

Yes. All scales are different unless you spend a few hundred on a floor standing doctors or gym scale with the weights. Digital scales are especially vulnerable to being wrong because they usually calculate weight by measuring pressure being squeezed between two membranes.

Now, this isn't a problem...as long as the scales are consistent. If you step on and off the scale three or four times, do you get the same weight each time? If you get a consistent weight, that's fine. Just make that scale the center of your weight loss universe. In "your" universe, you weigh what that scale tells you and ignore all other scales (except your doctor's scale).

If you step on and off the scale three or four times and get a different number each time, return it...if it's not consistent, it's useless.

Also, most scales will get more "accurate" the less you weigh. For example, my expensive bathroom spring scale reads about 10 pounds heavy at 280 pounds but is dead accurate at 120. When my wife weighs 120 at the gym she weighs 120 at home. When I weigh 290 at the gym I weigh 280 at home.

Physics sucks like that.

Now, on to guilty eating! Yes, my day is Friday. I'll eat anything I want, but I'll eat a sane portion. I'll order Thai or Indian for lunch but split the portion in half and save the rest for later. I'll have two slices of pizza (I used to regularly eat 3/4 of a large pepperoni pie on my own). I'll go to Taco Bell and order a single Double Decker Taco instead of my previous "usual" of two Double Decker Tacos and a Chili Cheese Burrito. I'll have once scoop of ice cream instead of a heaping bowl.

You get the picture. I eat anything I want on Friday but now have the willpower to limit my intake. If you limit your intake, you won't feel guilty!

Default Thanks!

Thanks Sean. My new scales are depressingly accurate for me. Same big number every time. My old scales I could move around on the bathroom floor to get the reading I wanted, but the digital ones don't work that way. lol

My "anything" day is Sunday, since my husband is off that day too. It's just that when Monday comes around I regret whatever it was I ate on Sunday, thinking that if I'd stayed on my diet I'd surely have lost a pound or two. Silly reasoning, I'd probably just binge instead. I just filled out my fitday.com entry for yesterday and realized I didn't really cheat all that much so I'm going to stop stressing now. I'll accept the new scales and post my "higher" weight, after all it doesn't change the fact that I can get back into my jeans.

I hope to fit back into the dozen or so pairs of Dockers I have that are 2" too small. But yeah, if you weigh yourself daily (it sounds like you do) then a "depressingly accurate" scale is what you want. If you weigh yourself weekly then it doesn't matter if your scale is a bit off.

And the jeans attitude is the right attitude! Who cares what number pops up on the new scale...you're not heavier, the scale is just using a different, uhm, scale. On the other hand, you could buy a different scale each week hoping you'll weigh "less" on it.

Default New Scales

Would you believe the new scales died? This morning they wouldn't register any numers unless I shook them before I stepped on. I returned them, and found a set that also monitors body fat. (Which is appalling 42%.) So, depending on which scale I've either lost 2 lbs or .5lbs. I'm beginning to think Mom was right when she said "If God wanted us to know what we weighed, he'd have put numbers on our toes" LOL. Good news is that my best khakis now fit again.

I too know the scale woes. I had a digital once it didn't last long. I have a regular spring one now and it faithfully reports my weight just a bit too accuratly I occasionall test it by puting an iron weight from my weight bench on it.
I write my weight on the calander weekly as well as what I do for excersise each day.
I have my eat anything day on monday as it is my day off of work. I sometimes eat out at a resturaunt I like or just get pizza and a pint of good ice cream. This week was Sausalito cookies. I never feek guilty for it though. sometimes I might just not do anyting special because I don't always want to but I know I deserve a treat for being so careful all week. Even a dog gets a reward for being good! We are certainly more deserving than that.
As for god I doubt he ever intended us to have these problems and I know he has a plan to permanently cure them so I'll just keep on trusting him to keep his promise. My only hope is to do the best I can while I have to put up with this imperfection and sho him that I apreciate the life he's given me.

Default You're right!

Cowgirl, you are absolutely correct. I should be grateful to God that this extra weight has not casued any major health issues for me, instead of complaining.

The newest digital scale seems to be accurate, so I'll keep using it. I found that spring scales were too much of a temptation for my step-son, he kept "adjusting" the weight. Nothing quite like weighing in on Monday morning as thinking you'd gained 40lbs overnight. Hopefully this one will be harder for him to tinker with.

Does anyone know if you can order Slimfast by mail?

I can't get the kind made with soy and wondered if I could get it that way.

Cgirl I have to follow your idea and write everything down. I have been slacking at that.

Default Slim Fast with Soy

I've been able to find the Slim-Fast with Soy Protein at my Super-Walmart. It's $4.28 for a 6 pack. I've tried the Orange Pineapple and it's wonderful. Let me look around online, maybe I can find something.

Angry I found your slim-fast online!

You can order the soy-protein slim-fast online at www.drugstore.com

The have the Orange-Pineapple and Apple-Cran-Raspberry for $6.99. I can honestly say that both are very yummy. We blend the Orange-Pineapple and a can of pineapple chunks for smoothies.

I also found a toll-free number for slim-fast: 1-877-375-4632
Maybe they can tell you who carries it in your area.

Anything else I can find for you just let me know, I'm at work and it's soooo slow. I'm doing all sorts of diet reseach to keep from snacking. My favorite site so far today is the "weight loss slippers" Magically lose weight by wearing these magnetically enhanced house slippers. Oh yeah, that's worth $50. LOL
