Default need fencing advice! (not the sword fight, the kind you put in your yard)

We are planning to put in a fence, but are having a really hard time deciding whether steel or aluminum is the better choice! We're looking at a 5-foot tall ornamental fence that we basically want to be able to keep a dog in.

Here's what I know. Steel is sturdier, but it can rust. Aluminum does not rust, but it costs significantly more. Anyone have one or the other and want to comment? I really need advice!

My roommate and I have just spent the last month debating this very idea! To Fence or Not To Fence....(we decided to Fence)--- then "which kind"? We've run the gammut from white picket in vinyl, to wooden picket (unpainted), to aluminum chain link, and finally decided on split-rail!
Ok, so you can't keep a dog in a split rail fence but....

I have a friend who owns a fence company, and he said basically said what you did - your choice is maintenance, or up-front cost. The aluminum covered steel ones look steel or metal, and yes, cost more - initially. But - no painting, no scraping, no rusting. Or you can go with the steel one and save $$ now, but have lots of maintenance (and thus, added cost). My advice is to get 3-4 estimates - I found that they varied QUITE a bit; I was surprised! Good luck!
