Default Is a Personal Trainer & Metabolism Eval worth it?

My DD is getting married next month. She's doing a Disney Cruise wedding. I booked an appointment with a personal trainer (1 hr/$75) and a metabolism evaluation (30 min/$30). Since I don't belong to a gym, are these going to be a waste of money?

Part of me says no. I intend to use the gym while onboard. I don't know if that will make me want to come home and join one. I've been considering 24 Hr Fitness because there is one very near my work.

What will a metabolism eval do for me?

TIA

I can't speak to the metabolism evaluation but getting a personal trainer was the best thing I ever did for myself.

Ditto the above about personal trainers. I'm a smart girl and the gym doesn't intimidate me - I was perfectly happy getting on the internet and figuring out how to work the equipiment and setting up a plan for myself. But it wasn't until I worked with a trainer and really learned HOW to push myself that I started seeing great results.

I worked with my trainer for 6 months and he taught me a whole lot about how to tailor my workouts, how to get the effects I wanted, etc. I stopped working with him last fall, but have kept up the routine he set for me (and it's actually 4 different routines that I cycle through periodically to mix things up) and the results have been great.

I highly recommend that people work with a trainer for just a little bit. It really made a huge difference for me.

I'm a little confused. Did you book the trainer and the eval to be done on the cruise ship?

Why not see if you can talk the 24 Hour Fitness into letting you join for a month of you book some personal training sessions and start NOW?

Thanks everyone. Mel, yet I booked them. We are at sea with no port stops for 2 days and I booked one for each day.

I think I will keep the appointments unless someone can give me a good reason for not doing it.

Ahhh I see.

I honestly don't know if a trainer for a cruise would be worth it. For me the benefit to having a trainer is having someone who has worked with you at least a few times to learn what your problem areas are and what your goals are and helps you to develop a plan to get there. A one-time trainer who sees you for an hour and never sees you again isn't going to be able to help you build a routine that is personal to you.

Bascially what this guy (or girl) will do is walk her through an hour of workouts after a brief discussion with her. There won't be any long term plan developed and he (or she) won't have any investment in actually working to personalize a plan. To me that's just a big waste of $75.

I would suspect on a cruise ship, the trainers have some standard, not-too-hard workouts that they give to every client. After all, no one wants to work out hard enough to be stiff and sore the next day. So she'll get a basic workout and that's it.

Honestly, a better gift (IMO) would be a series of training sessions at her home gym BEFORE the cruise. That way she'd be able to work out prior to the cruise/wedding.

Also, I just read that this is a wedding/honeymoon cruise. I honestly can't imagine that I would want to go work out and have a metabolism check on my wedding cruise - especially by myself. Maybe if I were going with my fiance/husband as something together ... I dunno.

If you absolutely want to get her something for the cruise itself, I would think a better cruise gift would be a couples massage for both of them either on the day before or the day after the wedding. Something romantic and relaxing after the stress of the wedding day.

Hmmm. More food for thought. I've already booked a couples massge for them.

I think I will cancel the p/t and metabolism eval.
