Question Losing weight but gaining inches?

Okay, I have lost about 7 lbs in the last almost couple of weeks.... so that's good. Probably a small % is fat the rest water, but I am happy nonetheless. Measurements? Different story. I'm losing in some areas and gaining or plateauing in others. Anyone else have the strange phenomonon with the scale # going down but the tape measure # going up?

Hey!

Measurements, like the scale readings, are only numbers--but my guess is that either you are retaining water when you get a higher measurement, or you are measuring in a slightly different place or with the tape at a small angle. How much difference are we talking about?

It's best, I think, not to take measurements any more frequently than once a month.

I had someone at Curves measure my bustline and get 2 inches larger than the previous month. One of the measurements was therefore off, because at my age, I'm not getting bigger there!

I haven't gained inches, no... but after a 40lbs weight loss the inches around my stomach actually STAYED the SAME. I keep hoping, however, that the inches around my bust will increase... dramatically.

Holli, you have been doing exercise. Where are the measurements different? I noticed when I started that my legs seemed like they are getting bigger. I think someone on here told me that I was building muscle and to give it a few weeks. Sure enough, that muscle beat some fat into submission and my legs started getting smaller and harder. Same with my biceps.

Congrats on that weight loss. You are doing it, sweetie!

I'm sure if I am wrong, there will be plenty of people on here to correct me and give you the right advice.

Also, if it is TOM, then that can make all the difference in that tape measure and scale.

Red, I have some extra you can have.

We're talking about a 1 to 1-1/2 inch difference. And yes the tape is in the same place. I walk but that's it - no weights at all. I am expecting AF to rear her ugly head soon cause my weight has been the same this morning and yesterday morning, and it's time....but she is no where to be found. I am due any day though....

My calves are all over when I measure them. If I do it after a workout they are always a little bigger. I find it best to measure everything once a month in the morning. Right after I weigh in.

that's a great idea Lynsey, I think I will try that too, never thought of waiting a whole month before measuring, maybe the once a week thing was too often. thanks!!!!!
