I was wondering if anyone else watched the movie "Queen Sized" last night on Lifetime. It's also being shown tonight at 9 PM on Lifetime. What were your opinions on this movie?
I'll share my opinion if a couple other people post....
Honestly? I thought it was trite. And sort of preachy about fat girls. And hopelessly unrealistic (there. I said it). I didn't really enjoy it, and I thought I would...
I watched it and didn't like it either. It could be my age, but it was soooo predictable. Not well done and it just seemed unrealistic to me too. "Fat Like Me" was a better show IMHO. I think they showed this right before this movie.
I didn't like it either. It was stereotypical to me. I hated the scenes when she ran to the refridgerator or dug out her stash. I really hated when she told her friend you're just mad because I'm famous. She was presented as an emotional mess.
Yeah it was okay, but I kinda have to agree, kinda stereotypical but had a good message at least, I think. Yeah I agree, "Fat like me" was much better.
I thought it was OK... apart from being extremely predictable and, unfortunately, highly unrealistic in this day and age. (Though apparently it was based on a true story. Eh.)
I wanted to like it, but I thought it was pretty cheesy. To me, it seemed like something a 14 or 15 year old kid might have written. Plus, I loved Nikki Blonsky in Hairspray, but I just don't think she's a very good actress. She can sing and dance like crazy, but acting without any "show" isn't her strong suit.
I agree with all of you! Lol... I didn't want to come right out with a negative opinion, but I was really unimpressed. Like when she got upset and just ran to the fridge and dug out food and started stuffing her face... I mean, come on. I am an emotional eater at times, but I have never acted like that!
Also, the portrayal of the mother was really... weird. Like when she imagined her mother saying all the negative stuff to her, I was going, "Where is that coming from?" I mean, the mother wasn't really mean to her about being overweight, to me, it seemed like she was trying to help. I mean my parents are critical of my weight and eating habits WAY more than that mother was, and I don't have breakdowns imagining them berating me!
I haven't seen it but I was planning to eventually watch it one day. I guess it's not worth it, eh?
Lifetime has some great shows/movies about fat girls like Real Women Have Curves (seriously, America Ferrera is HOT when she isn't Ugly Betty...), Fat Like Me, and How to Look Good Naked.
My mother actually never berated me about my weight and neither did my father. I was a chunky kid in middle school who turned into an overweight adolescent before eating disorders(which were in reaction to the societal environment around me, not my family), and my parents never even hinted that I was overweight. They never tried to put me on a diet and fed me the same things they fed my sister. I had no idea that I even WAS clinically overweight until I stepped on a scale and faced reality. I never had mental images of them berating me, though I definitely wondered if my peers viewed me as the FAT girl.
I have never seen or known anyone who would run in desperation to the refrigerator, throw things out and begin shoving ice cream into her mouth in front of others. Seriously, how sick is a teen who always turns to food when upset?
Also, anyone who envisions their mother (one who isn't abusive) attacking her verbally, cruelly and repeatedly as this girl did has some serious psychological issues.
