Default New and needing help

Hey ladies,

I'm a newbie here as you can tell from my post count. Well I'm on my track to lose weight. While I'm not trying to lose much, just the little bit I need will do. I was in the army 5 years ago, and stayed at a weight of 135, then I got out, and within months ballooned up to 180. Talk about a shock, I went from wearing my size 29 waist jeans (guy size) to a 36. I am now down to 175-176 (depending on when I weigh myself). I've joined a gym since I just moved back home after spending a year in the desert (Kuwait). I am looking for work out buddies to help me in my goal of getting back down to at least 145-150. I know I'll never be able to fit into the 29 inch jeans, but to be able to maybe get into a 32 would be great. However I fear that with where most of the weight was deposited (my rear), it may still be a bit hard.

So any help, tips or clues would be great. My trainer at the gym works me out one day a week (as that was all I could afford), but I'm working at it on my own as well, since I'm in the gym at least 4-5 days a week for about an hour each time.

So help me out ladies, and welcome me at the same time.

Hey Dahonesttruth, and

Are you watching what you're eating at all? It can make a HUGE difference! Exercise can get you partway for sure, but you need to carefully watch your eating to go the rest of the way. Since your intro was heavily exercise focused, I don't know what your eating is like, but that might help if you're not focusing on it!

Otherwise, look around. There are tons of tips, clues, and ideas here.

Can't wait to hear more from you soon!

Welcome!

For many of us, losing weight is 70% food, 20% exercise and the other 10% is good genetics. So if you're not somehow tracking or monitoring what you eat, that is what I would concentrate on next. It's very difficult to lose weight by exercise alone.

Great job on joining that gym! That's a great step to getting healthier.

i'm not just doing exercises, i am working on my eating. i've dropped 20 lbs before (about 2 years ago), on a mostly strict 100% whole wheat, sandwich meat for lunch, occassional sub sandwich once every two weeks, light miracle whip, then baked chicken and some veggie for dinner.

now i've gotten to the point where i've branched out to turkey and pork and a little bit of beef, but its all baked. i've only had fried chicken once. with veggies, juice or water or a smoothie (whole frozen fresh fruit). i've gotten back into the habit of eating breakfast. which i know will definately come in handy once school starts back up. I've got a ton of healthy fruit bars (curve, special k, weight watchers) as my snacks in between meals.

i know i'm only 4 weeks into it, but it just seems like i see shows like the biggest loser and these folks are losing 10-15 lbs a week it seems and it puts me back. I have another two weeks before i get taped again by my trainer. So i'm a bit worried, but i know i've lost something if not a good bit.

so any tips you all can give me would be great.

Please see this thread on why basing your opinion of your own losses on reality shows like The Biggest Loser isn't realistic:

Biggest Loser: How are they doing it?

They are not a valid measure for weight loss progress.

thanks for that link, i read through it, and thought about it ... i guess if i had nothing else to do for a week or two but eat and exercise i would have dropped this weight already. but the reality is, i'm in real life, not on tv and things aren't always what they seem.

i also think its a str8 rip off for those websites to charge you to get help. in the fact that this nation is one of the fattest in the world, you would think they'd be more adapt to helping us out. well i'm off to go find a track that i can run around and get this workout done.
