Default Here we go again - take 6....

OK.
I'm back on here again, for the 6th time, trying to lose weight again. I'm fortunate to not have gained more than my all-time highest, but I'm right back at 325.
I feel like I've tried everything, but can't stick to one thing or another for more than a month! Does anyone have any ideas for someone as indecisive as me?
I'm more or less an impulse eater - and don't seem to have any will power to control portion size or preference for nutritional foods. I know I've got to change, though, and I'm going to keep trying until I get it right.

Welcome back! Unfortunantly portion control and good food choices are the only way your going to get where you want to be. But you can do it. Stay on here and keep being inspired and encouraged by people that know how you feel and what you are going through. We are all in the same boat so if we all paddle together we will get where we want to go faster!!!

Have you tried seeking in-person support? Something like TOPS where you have weekly weigh-ins and meetings, and it's very inexpensive. I find that I need in-person support in addition to coming here--seeing people face-to-face really helps to keep me more accountable.

One thing I have done to help me control my portions is to sort everything into my kitchen into portions before eating it. Everything. If I buy ANY type of snack food, I check the label for a serving size, and I sort it all out into individual serving sizes in little baggies or plastic containers. Another thing I had to do in my kitchen was basically get rid of anything easy to grab and eat (with the exception of fruits and veggies). I basically had a kitchen full of ingredients, but no real convenient foods. It made me really think about what I wanted to eat because I would have to prepare/cook it, not just wander into the kitchen and grab it. And then I also rid my home of junk food. Period. If it's not there, I can't eat it. I even started taking a different route to work just to avoid passing McD's!

Unfortunately, it's not easy. Anyone who tells you it is doesn't understand the struggles of being morbidly obese. Maybe you can tell us more about your specific issues, and we can offer some specific suggestions?

Default I feel your pain!

I too have tried over and over again to get control of my weight, only to give up soon after I start. I always figured it was so much work to diet and exercise, and so much easier to eat junk and sit on the couch. And while the physical effort is, indeed, greater at first, the mental and emotional effort to keep going on a healthy eating plan is much easier to deal with than the pit of despair that I have been in for most of my adult life. I have discovered for myself that making good choices is a self-motivating thing. If I can get through one day, one workout, even one meal at a time, then I can get through the next one, and the next, and so on.
You didn't say if you have decided on a plan or not. I am on Weight Watchers Core plan, and having the support of a meeting to go to and the accountability of a weigh in really helps me a lot.
Best wishes for your journey and thanks for coming back again!

Welcome back!! I know your pain...i do! It is so hard. I am a "mindless" eater. I can't even tell you what I have eaten today! So sad. But keep coming here for support and we will all get through it!

Thanks so much! I've been blessed with great health, overall, but my weight is starting to affect my daily life..which is why I'm back at it again.
I tried WW over the summer, but I was working 45+ hours per week and taking full time grad classes. Now that I've graduated, I have more time to work out and pay attention to what I'm doing. WW helped me lost almost 20 pounds, but I ended up gaining it all back over the fall semester and I let my membership dues lapse.
I think I will try WW again, but with the much needed exercise this time around.
I also think I'll take Jill's advice and portion everything out before I even get hungry. I'm definitely a convenience-eater, if it's there and edible, I'll eat it.
Thank you so much! I'm very glad I came back!
