Default help! my right hip flares up every time i run!

I recently took over a week off of running because of a move, and I noticed I no longer had any of the sorness I was experiencing while I was running 3 times a week. I ran on Tuesday of this week and lo and behold the next day my hip hurt. What in the world can I do to make this go away? It drives me crazy!

i would go to a DR, and talk to him/her about it before i ran anymore.. pain in a joint could be a warning you are putting too much on your hip by running.. the DR would be able to tell you for sure.. that way you wont be doing any permanent damage..

You could try the Runner's World "What Hurts?" tool to get an idea.

I already went in for this and the doc didn't seem to really be worried about it, just told me to rest and recover. Well I do that, and it doesn't matter for how long, it always comes back.

Going to work on lower back strenthening exercises and maybe get a new pair of shoes to see if that helps.

Have you ever been professionally fitted for shoes? You may be striding in such a way that pulls your knee out of alignment, making your hip hurt. Insoles or higher-support shoes for your particular alignment issues can help. Do you have a Fleet Feet near you? They are great for this.

I second the professional shoe fitting suggestion. Some places will videotape your stride to help you choose a shoe.

What surface do you run on?

I also think it may have something to do with your shoes. I also had awful hip pain associated with running/walking. It wasn't until I went into the chiropractor and had my hips and lower back adjusted that it got better. Then I got better shoes and haven't had any issues since.

thanks ladies, i am definately going to get new shoes. there is a fleet feet about 30ish minutes away from me, i looked them up. my very first injury was a left knee - right hip combo and the doc said i must have been leaning on the right side because the left knee hurt first and knocked myself out of alignment. my left knee no longer hurts but the hip is worse. i'm going to wait until christmas and have my mom take me to get them when she gets here to visit! woo hoo!
