Question during that time of month.....

okay, so i have noticed that when i am on my period i tend to eat more than i usually do.
but despite my increased apetite, i dont gain any weight.
if i were to eat more on any other day then i would gain weight (my body is really sensative to what i eat).

is there a reason that i can eat more, and yet not gain weight during this week?

i tend to go off my "diet" during these weeks, because i know i dont gain weight.
Is this going to backfire into my face eventually?
if i were to stick with my diet during my period would i lose weight?

is it that:
A) my body is burning more fat/calories during this week, which is why i dont gain
or
B) my body is maintaining my weight during this week. so ill come out the same no matter what.

what do you think?

Hey!

It may be that your body can use the extra nutrients during that time.

It could backfire on you--if you go too far with it.

Sometimes it takes a few days for weight gain to show up--so if you eat more than usual during that week, it might not show up until the week after.

If you stay on your plan during that week, you would likely continue to lose weight, but you might feel hungry. You don't say what plan you're following, but if you have some flexibility, you might add in a couple of WW points or 100 cals or so per day during that week, so you won't be as hungry.

Hope it helps!

I usually notice a slight weight gain (1-2lbs) or at least plateau in the week before my period, and then a very rapid loss during the actual week of the period (2-3lbs), as if my body is making up for the bloating or whatever is happening. So maybe the body does metabolize food better during that week or something.

I was actually wondering if other women notice things like this. I'm on birth control, which is probably affecting my hormone levels, maybe changing my experience. Anyone else have anything like this?

I, too, find that I typically gain a good pounds right before AF, then lose it within days of it starting. I'm pretty sure it's fluid retention, all related to hormones.

I'm sure that if you were to stick to your diet over the course of AF you would see a loss. Other than that temporary blip that always occurs a day or two beforehand, I've always lost provided I've been eating right and getting my exercise in.

Personally, I think the idea that you can eat whatever you want and not gain weight might be more an illusion of the scale - if you were to weigh each day from before AF to a few days after, you could very well find that you go up a little, then drop down, then slip back up a touch (making it seem like you stayed pretty much the same). If you were to maintain your diet throughout, though, that drop down might be more likely to "stick", and even drop lower after a couple of days.

The key for me is that my overall trend is downward. That matters more to me than any individual WI - bodies are strange and complicated machines, and sometimes they just do what they're going to do with no regard for your feelings or effort!!

I don't know if I gain or lose at this time I never paid attation to it. But I do know that I get hungery! But I try not to give in since the diet. I will eat more celery or something like that to try not to over eat. I also notice I want starch! So I may have pretzels that always helps. Now I eat the wheat pretzels. I love them. I just found a a good combination! Wheat pretzels and v 8 jucie! That hits the spot.

I always gain a couple pounds before I start, eat a tooon during, and end up where I started before the gain. When I'm actually on my period I'm hungry all the time and literally eat nonstop where as usually due to a slow metabolism and exercise I rarely feel physically hungry. I guess that hunger is just our bodies' way of telling us it needs more food during that time. As long as your not going overboard and your not gaining I see no harm in it.
