Hmm... Matter of preference? It tends to be hot food for me, but a cold sandwich, if made the right way, would still curb my hunger for hours on end (hummus for the win! ). During winter months, though, maybe hot is better. I've noticed that a lot of us tend to be cold more easily because of the weight we've lost/are losing, and if you're anything like me, then hot food would indeed calm the hunger that is partly due to simply feeling cold.
Well fiber rich vegetables and protein is what helps to curb my hunger the most. That could be a cold salad with a can of tuna mixed in or piping hot baked acorn squash. It could be a cold yogurt with Fiber One mixed in, or a hot chicken breast with cooked vegetables. So the temperature is not really important to me, it's the content and the "quality" of the food. Meaning I don't eat empty calories, just nutrient rich ones. That is what's most satisfying to me.
I find that warm foods fill me up better, perhaps because they take longer to eat? (I tend to inhale my food!) A warm bowl of oatmeal is incredibly filling, as are soup and chili. Even a cup of chai tea with a splash of skim milk and SF vanilla syrup will do in a pinch if I'm out of calories.

Funny how we're all different. It's the contrary for me: I tend to eat what's warm way faster, because I don't like when it's starting to get lukewarm (especially in the case of meat/fish and vegetables). Beverages are less of a problem, but I still don't like my tea when it's not warm enough anymore.
Everything I hear about hot and SPICY foods, is that people who eat them tend to eat less food on average. Now, I don't know if that pertains to hot as a temperature as well, but I guess if you scald your tastebuds, you're not likely to want to eat. LOL
On a cold day, cold food just does NOT cut it for me. I could eat and eat and not feel full. A nice warm meal though, keeps me comfortable for ages. Switch it around on hot days, same thing!
It's usually the substance not the temperature that does it for me -- i.e., high water content (soups, stews) and high fibre content (veggies, veggies, more veggies).
Lol.
I tend prefer to eat cold food on hot days and warm food on cold days too. But the thing is that they are so comforting and so right that I can't stop eating. It would feel like a torture to eat cold food on cold days and hot food on hot days. Anyway, I've noticed that I usually gain weight during the winter months. So I was thinking that eating warm/hot food was making me fat. I've read somewhere that our stomach digest cold food slower than warm food.
But I think rockinrobin and meowee are right. If I gotta go for something cold then I should eat a fruit or salad and if I gotta go for something hot, a soup or stew with high water content.
I love cold foods, sandwiches especially I grew up eating spicy foods though and really it didn't stop me from gaining all the weight I did. I am actually just starting to like hot foods such as soup. Tonight's dinner was soup and it was sooo good
just my two cents -- I tend to feel more satisfied after hot food. For some reason, cold food makes me feel like I'm snacking instead of having a meal, so I eat a lot more. *shrug*
Oh, that it were so, almostheaven! I love hot (spicy) foods, and I can overeat on them just fine.

Yeah, me too. I LOVE hot wings. The hotter the better. When I was overdue with my son, I was trying everything. I heard that walking, sex, you name it, would bring on the birth. So when I heard spicy food would do it, I spent at least 3 days a week not watching my diet and getting the hot and spicy buffalo chicken tenders at Ruby Tuesdays. LOL
Ok, so if I had a cup of hot soup and a cold slice of ham and swiss on lavash whole grain bread for lunch, I guess I'm covering my bases. LOL

lbs,
There's a discussion going on in the 100lb club about this right now. Zelma brought up the point that most people eat more in the wintertime if they don't watch themselves simply because our body requires more energy to keep warm when it's cold out. More energy = more calories = weight gain. I'd recommend a food diary and keeping very good track of your calories during the winter especially. That way you don't overeat. Good luck!
