I have been soooo tired since being on this medication (Coumadin). Everyone I've talked to that has been on it has said the same thing. Yet "tiredness" is not on the list of "side effects". I don't get it.
Anyway, I did a massive google on the medication, & learned a lot. But apparently I should "avoid" dieting to lose weight while on this medication.
Where does THAT leave me? I don't want to balloon up to 200 pounds, but I feel like that's where I'm going. I was 180 on Saturday. My highest weight EVER. I feel so "bloated", I look horrible, and not to mention.... just so TIRED allllll the time. I went home from work Friday... had dinner, & to bed by 8:00. I was up by 7:30 Saturday, ate breakfast & did some minor housework... took a nap from 1pm-5pm... woke up, had dinner with hubby, then back to bed by 8:30. It kinda makes me mad at myself! But I guess I'm still recouperating.
Call your doctor and express your concerns! He or she may be able to recommend ways you can handle the medication side effects, or even be able to put you on something different that acts similarly but doesn't have the same side effects. Only your doctor will know for sure, so please do ask
In terms of cheer, though, I can provide that in the form of a dancing vegetable party.
I already talked to my doc... he said (and I quote) "It's better to fight a small battle of the bulge than to be dead. And what we're working on here is truly saving your life." So.....
But thanks for the veggie dance! That's always worth a giggle.

Make sure you ask your doc what vitamins, minerals and trace minerals you are to be having. My dad was on that stuff and he had to take certain things to make sure A. he didn't blote up and B. he wasn't tired all the time. Once he was eating a heathy diet and was taking the supplements he wasn't tired all the time and the blotting went away. He even lost weight.

I understand perfectly your doctor, you have to prioritize (is that how u spell it?) first living, then anything else. I think you just have to understand there will be limitations, that you WILL feel tired, but do the best you can with what you have.
Maybe doing things will be more difficult and the weight loss will be slower but if you do the best you can eventually you will lose it...IŽve heard of people loosing with medications that make you gain weight, of course it mas harder for them but they still did it.
Also you are not dieting, you are just eating healthy, and eating healthy should be compatible with everything. Maybe the warning goes to strict dieters, but I donŽt think it aplies to eating veggies and fruits and avoid unhealthy stuff.
Good luck and cheer up! Probably youŽll start feeling better soon.. and I do get u, some time ago I started with venlafaxina, a huge dose and I felt sick for so many days but after some time it dissapeared
All right, never mind the weight for now. What about the tired issue? I would press him to see if there is not something comparable that will not have this side effect on you.
As far as your weight loss, you just may have to be that much more vigilent, I'm sorry to say. This is NOT insurmountable. You CAN lose weight, though it may be slower then you'd hoped it would be. I'm sure the eating right will in turn make you feel better overall. So being extra vigilent is a win/win situation.
Hang in there and hang tough. You CAN do this. You most definitely can. Good luck!
Re: the comment of eating healthy vegetables. With Coumadin you have to be careful with leafy green veggies. This is the one situation you don't want to suddenly skyrocket your intake. It may be worth asking your doc for a referral to a nutritionist.
Say, you are ALIVE and that is GREAT! I am so happy you're still here!
Having put that into perspective, it can't hurt for you to make sure you are eating to maintain your weight, rather than gain. You know how the drill goes... Just as rockinrobin says, be vigilant. And do find out what you should NOT be eating while on this medication, which supplements you should take, and which you should not. Same for types of exercise.
How wonderful that you found out about this in time! Wow, the alternative is pushing up daisies.......

Hugs to you.
Yeah... no broccoli, no greens, etc. I mean, it's not that I CAN'T eat those things, but doc said if I don't eat those things on a regular basis, then I shouldn't eat them at all, because Vitamin K does interfere with the Coumadin (Vitamin K is found in broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, spinach, and other green leafy vegetables, cereals, soybean, and other vegetables. It helps clot your blood, & we're trying to thin my blood so it WON'T CLOT right now.)
And I did see/talk to a nutritionist before I left the hospital.

I did; there's not... this is what he wants me on. He really feels it's the best thing for me right now, & expects me to be on it at least thru mid-February.

The hard part is not the diet ("healthy eating habits!") - it's the exercise. I just can't. TOO TIRED! - I mean to-the-bone-tired all day, every day. Barely make-it-thru-8-hours-of-work tired! So I exercise about 15 minutes, & that's it.... it's all I can do.
But I do miss broccoli! And mustard greens! - those are two of my staples when I'm "habitually eating healthy." I've been sticking to carrots, sweet potatoes, green beans, and baked beans lately.
IT IS HARD. And I can't stand feeling this way. IT's making me
But all your comments DO help. So please... keep'm coming! Thanks!
I have nothing to add about the medical issues. I'm just hoping for the best for you!! I can understand your agony over weight issues, but I would just do the best you can with staying in a good range in weight. The first priority is to take care of the other medical stuff.
I was trying to think of a good joke for you, but I'm rather lame at comedy.
I like the dancing veggies, though!!
OH!!! Here's one:
A couple was making their first trip to the doctor prior to the birth of their first child. After the exam, the doctor took a small stamp and stamped the wife's stomach with indelible ink. The man and wife were curious about what the stamp was for, so when they got home, the man took out a magnifying glass to try to see what it was. In very small letters, the stamp said, "When you can read this, come back and see me."

Saturday I was 180. Today (Tuesday) I am 175 again. I must be sloshing all kinds of water weight around in there somewhere!
I'm currently trying to keep my calorie count between 1400-1500. It's just too difficult for me to aim for a specific number, so I give myself kudos for the 100-range. Lately I have to force myself to eat breakfast. I'm just not hungry in the mornings, & that never used to be a problem for me. I wonder why I've suddenly lost my morning appetite?
