Unhappy massive thighs....

so i have always had big thighs, it's where i carry most of my fat. im about 15 lbs overweight, but my thighs are just - so - huge. It's incredibly discouraging to see myself losing but not see anything budging off my thighs. When i lost weight the first time i lost maybe 2 inches off my thighs, even though i lost upwards of 30 lbs. Has anyone else had htis problem? i've heard of weight not moving off the stomach area, but i feel really alone in this thunder thigh problem. if anyone has had/overcome similar problems what do you do to overcome it?

I have no advice but can only sympathize. My thighs are SO gigantic that I have to buy pants that are at least a size or two too big for my waist just so they fit my thighs. I look forward to reading peoples advice, but honestly, I think we will always just have big thighs. It stinks, but such is life, it could be worse.

If your thighs are muscular and have little fat on them..they're just made that way and there's nothing you can do except maybe dress in a way to disguise them.If your thighs are fatty and that's where the excess pounds are...you can't control where fat goes off and may just need to lose weight. Some people have studdorn fat in areas that won't shrink no matter how much they weigh and they have to get lipo to get rid of the fat pockets altogether.Doing resistance exercises on them(squats, lunges, leg lifts..) should definetely give them a smaller appearance.

This is my exact problem. My thighs are the widest part of my body - even wider than my shoulders(dont let my avatar fool you - im standing that way on purpose!) - i so all kinds of things to look better including wearing really high heels to make my legs look longer. My weight wont budge right now and has not for about 9 months - but i have found that in the past, that resistance training like metioned above and lots of cardio. You have to remember that this is most likely the last place you will lose your weight. So you have to be VERY VERY patient and stick to it. I have muscular legs - so they will never be super thin - but i know they can be toned to look nice.

I too have rather large thighs and always have!

Mine however are definitely very muscular so it isn't ever really going to change which is something I have had to come to terms with and learn to like. I usually have major problems when buying pants because they wont fit over my thighs and if they do then they will be way to big on my waist.

Running, cycling, squats, lunges etc etc have all toned my legs nicely to the point where now you can see just about every muscle. They'll never be small or even normal but hey...every woman (and not half the men either :P) in my office apparently want my legs - though I do remind them that includes thunder thighs :P

So I guess my advice is acceptance - you only have one body so accept it in all it's unique quirkiness We always see our problem areas magnified anyway...other people rarely see what we see as a negative in the same light.

Yep...I'm the same way. When you look at me from the side you can see them bulge out in the front even. *sigh* I'm trying to lose as much as I can to get them as small as I can but I know they'll never be slim...it's not how I'm built. Luckily they are muscular and quite strong but they also hold onto quite a bit of fat. I've found the walking and running to be the most effective at slimming them down.

I am between an hourglass and a pear shape (I would be an hourglass because I am a DD cup, but my shoulder width/ribcage is smaller...so my measurements are a touch on the pear side.)

My problem area has always been my hips and thighs. Always. You can't really escape your shape completely-meaning if you are one of the women who carries their weight in the upper body and have stick thin legs-you are never going to be hourglass shaped. You are always going to be a tad top heavy. The same goes with a pear shape.

However, the best things you can do for this are:

~Get to a good weight for your body.

~Strength train, and this will help your body look more balanced. If you have strong muscular shoulders and back, it will help balance out the bottom.

~Dress to flatter your shape. Most skinny cut jeans, or the super low rise jeans that are cut slim through the hips and thighs simply don't work on a woman with rounder hips/thighs. They end up looking like sausage casings. Wear jeans that are curvier fit. If you are hourglass/pear shaped-most likely you have a defined waistline-and you will look thinner if you wear something fitted at the waist (a belted top, a snug fitting tee, etc.) and then something looser and flowing on bottom that hides that area. (an A-line skirt, a flowey skirt, pants that are looser/wide down the leg. The best thing you can do, play up the positive, and camoflauge the negative-no matter what your body type.

My friend went through a kind of eating disorder, i mean she wasnt being sick or anythin, she was just constantly dieting to try and "loose it off her thighs" but she was loosing weight everywhere else except for her thighs, and anyways i spoke to a relative of hers about it and basically big thighs run in her family, her mum has them, her Gran has them!! By this point she was looking really ill! Well i think she has stopped now because i dont really speak to her that much as she is all Loved up, but her mum said she was going to have a talk to her! But to be honest the amount of weight she lost made her look horrible, basically because she didnt need to lose weight!!

yeah. i guess that's what it comes down to-- the thing you dread the most is exactly what you have to do to make your body change XD... my thighs have about 5 graspable inches of fat on them. people at work think that i weigh about 130 because i we wear aprons and you can't tell what a person's lower body looks like. looks like i'm just gonna have to find time to work my legs out like crazy..

the thing that drives me batty is that i can lose like half an inch on my waistline every 3 or so pounds, but i feel almost no change anyplace else.

I have big thighs and calves, and while I can see a slight difference in my thighs when I lose,it never compares to everything else. And my calves....gah! They are ALWAYS HUGE,no matter how much I lose.

I too have larger type thighs (muscular and fatty), always have, even when I was 'slim'. I think the best avenue for us girls with bigger thighs is to do exercises which define them.

When I was younger I was always afraid to work them out fearing they would look larger.

This year though I've been doing squats and lunges and running stairs and I'm beginning to see some nice definition despite having a ways to go weight wise.

I think if they are going to be big anyway, I'd rather have defined muscular thighs vs, tree trunks -- which is how they looked to me before.

Some activities can cause muscles to become larger, increasing the size. Other activities tend to increase strength without increasing muscle size. Sounds weird--but think about runners. You don't see many of them with big thighs. Compare them to weight lifters.

You know, I couldn't minimize the size of my thighs even if I cycled, ran and climbed constantly. My legs have gotten to the point where they'll stay, which is slightly muscular. My calves used to be the problem- couldn't fit into knee-length boots very well. I've known that spot-reducing is nearly impossible but my calves did reduce a bit (about an inch) after all that workout!

I can't sympathize with you gals because my problem area is my tummy so I look like a turkey when I put on weight, but I have to say that I think little waists and larger thighs is a beautiful shape. My cousin has big thighs, she could lose all the weight she wants and still have big legs, but I think she looks great and would kill for her little waist and big thighs/hips. I think men like that shape too. I would use them to your advantage and just tone up as much as possible. Accept your body for the way it is, love it, and make it the best it can be.

Like Jordan, my thighs were always so big that I had to buy pants a couple of sizes larger than my waist just to fit. I am noticing that with losing weight, the thighs are shaping up nicely and everything is balancing out. I work out on the gazelle eliptical machine which gives the thighs and arms a lot of movement. While it's said that spot exercises don't work, I've noticed that my thighs are more in proportion now with the rest of me.
