New - Need Advice

  • Hello everyone. I have lurked here for about two years and have found great advice. I love the success stories.

In 15 months I lost 70lbs. I have 40 more pounds to lose.
In the past 9 months I have not lost any weight. I am so frustrated.

    I am on a 1,500 calorie diet, using 2 Slim Fast shakes per day. I walk 7- 10 miles a day, 6 days a week. I ride a bike 2 miles a day, 6 days a week. I lift weights 3 days per week.

Why is the scale not moving and what more can I do? Any and all advice would be most appreciated.

  • Hi Annie! I'm new here and I'm glad to meet you. I'm afraid I don't have any advice for you. It sounds like you are doing great with your exercise and eating. I hope you find the answers you are looking for!
  • Have you talked to a doctor, and is it possible that you've stopped losing weight because you have no more excess weight to lose? I feel like your body wouldn't be digging in its heels (so to speak) so hard if you weren't already at a weight which was good for you.

I have a friend who tried for years and years to lose weight, and went to all sorts of doctors, but nothing worked past 170 pounds (she's 5'2")- her bones are just too dense, and she is so muscular that it would be dangerous and extremely difficult for her to lose any further weight. I would consider what seems right for your own body first.

If you really must lose those forty pounds, than I apologize for the useless post. Sorry.

Congrats on the weight loss, must have been a lot of work.

Maybe you aren't taking in enough for all the exercise you do. 7 to 10 miles a day 6 days a week, wow, that much must take a lot of calories to do that. Everything else you do sure has to take a lot of calories and much more. I am not sure but that could be the case. Talk to your doctor. Let them know how many calories, fat, carbs and so forth you are taking in if you know. Sure let them know all the exercise you do. They might have some ideas for you.
  • Shy Moment,

Someone else has suggested more calorie intake. I just don't know how much more to add in.

I will make an appointment with my doctor and see what he suggests.

I'm glad that you didn't suggest more exercise. As this is as much as I can do.

    Thank you for the advice.

  • ImpalaHoarder,

I will make an appointment with my doctor and see what he says.

I certainly believe I have 40 more pounds to lose. I'm still at an obsese BMI. And I'm certainly not muscular.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Godsgirltmm,

It's nice to meet you too. Thanks for greeting me.

I see that we are at the same weight and have about the same amount that we want to lose. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

  • I too do the weights and walking thing. And have been told that if you don't change the things you do, your body gets used to it, and you stay the same. Try changing your food, like eating 1200 one day and 1700 the next, or the amount of exercise you do. Give it heaps one day and rest the next.
Not sure this will work for you, but it's worth a try
    Good Luck

  • MaryL,

Thanks for the advice. Are you losing weight by changing things up?

    Annie
  • Annie, Yes, I do, this every now and then when the weight just will not go away. Seems to work, for me anyway.at the moment doing another gym programme to help shake things up a bit. I have been stuck on the same weight for a while. Sucking down all this duty free booze from my holiday did not help.lol
    Hope it helps

I will indeed try shaking things up a bit.
