[Being Simply Me]

I have surgery on Oct 15th and I have all kinds of feelings and emotions running thru me. At times I am very excited and can't wait. At others I am nervous and scared something will go will go wrong and I will die. I'm thinking about writing a will just in case.
Ay, I statred dreaming about the surgery last night. I dreamt I had the surgery and was taking my walks around the hospital, I felt worried about eating too much or drinking too much, I was in some pain but mostly felt sore.
I asked my surgeon how many fatalities he has had and he told me of the over 1000 surgeries he's preformed he has had one. He told me the patient was HIV positive and had many other medical issues and complications. So I guess I should feel pretty asurred by this, right? Is the way I'm feeling normal??

I've had 5 surgeries in my life, and every time I was a nervous wreck. The worst part to me is knowing that you will be forced into falling asleep. It seems so unnatural. I would also worried about not waking up. But the odds are good for you that you will Try to relax. Having someone there before and after the surgery to comfort and help you helps a lot!

you sound VERY normal to me. honest! but, it also sounds like you're in EXCELLENT hands here - an experienced surgeon at an experienced hospital.

here's a tip - like modkittn said, having someone there will help you, but when the anesthesiologist shows up, chances are your friend/family member will have to leave. TALK TO THE ANESTHESIOLOGIST AND THE NURSING STAFF!!! when i was lying there, and the anesth came over to ask me how i was, i said FINE. and then he leaned over and said HERE'S A LITTLE SOMETHING TO CALM YOU DOWN as he added something to the IV line. i said that i was fine and didn't need it - and then he looked at my foot, which was jiggling so fast and hard the bed was shaking!!!!

bottom line: be open and honest with everyone. fear is fine. and right now, you're afraid of surgery [completely understandable] AND of the unknown [the post-op life]. you'll get through the first rather quickly, but with some pain.

the post-op life is up to you! and you have time - and LOTS of support - to figure it out. you can do it. honest!

You are feeling VERY normal. I had to have a D&C. Going to sleep, without the tv on, just isn't normal lol. YUP I worried about wakeing up. That is normal. Sounds like you have a good experienced doc. Things are going to go fine. Tell them of your concerns. They will give you something to help you relax. Sure helped me.

I went to my pre-op appt today. As I sat and waited for my name to be called there were a couple of post-op so i asked, and asked question. They encouraged and made me feel comfortable about the surgery. One woman was only 1 week post-op, I spoke to her a lot. I feel good about my choice to do the surgery. ;-)

Hi,
This message which will be my last until my surgery on Monday. Since I'm having trouble with the internet connection at home. Hopefully I will get my internet running once I get back home from the hospital.

Previously I was worried about dying now I am worried about the pain afterwards. I have a high tolerance for pain but I have heard this pain is like no other. My sister said it's worst than giving birth...and I've don't have any children so I have no idea. ;-) Hopefully the pain medication will work it's magic or maybe, just maybe it wont be so bad (wishful thinking).

I want to thank you all for your support and advise. because even when I haven't posted I have been reading yours. This board has made me feel at ease and I have learned a lot about WLS from your experiences.

Please keep me in your prayers and/or send positive vibes my way.

We will be praying for you Sandy. You know, it's funny but I don't remember the pain after the surgery. I remember being a little sore, but in three days I was pretty normal, just taking it slow and easy. You will be fine.

Sandy 2 words Morphine PUMP. . .You're going to be fine. I have a high pain threshold too. I was sore but I took my pain meds and got through it you will too!!!

i LOVED my morphine pump! and then spent 2 days at home on oxycontin, and was then fine.
