Default Gymnastics! Need to rant...

I've wanted to do gymnastics for years. Gymnasts and dancers are the two groups of people I envy most in the world. But unless you're under the age of 10, you CANNOT find gymnastics classes! It's all for kids. All the way down to toddlers! But it's like the world assumes that adult don't want to learn gymnastics, or that they'll have started young and already know where to go. So I can't find a place anywhere that offers classes for adults! Just because I couldn't do gymnastics as a kid, I can't get into the sport now? Not competitively or anything, just...for fun. Because it's one form of exercise I can practically guarantee I wouldn't skip out on or get bored with.

Does anyone know how to find gymnastics classes for adults? Or should I give up on this one?

Have you called the Santa Cruz Sports Center?

They appear to offer recreational adult classes.

Oh, Mandalinn. Thanks for the thought sweetie...but I've forgotten to update my profile. I live in Tennessee now...Nashville area. I looked into Santa Cruz Gym briefly when I lived there, but couldn't afford classes then. Now, when I CAN afford classes, I haven't got anywhere to take them. Irony is such a...witch.

If it's the twisting and such that you enjoy from gymnastics, I really like Yoga for that reason... Give it a whirl...

How do you do that?! I spent a half an hour googling to try to find places and couldn't find anything for over about ten years old. Mandalinn, my dear, I owe you big-time. I was *really* depressed about this last night. Now, there is hope.

If it's something you're interested in, go for it.

However...speaking as a former competitive gymnast (I competed from age nine or so through college), gymnastics is REALLY hard on your body. The reason most gymnasts are "retired" by the end of their teen years is because your body literally cannot handle that level of pounding after a certain time in your life. Plus, gymnastics requires a tremendous amount of flexibility, which is harder for adults than kids.

Again, I'm not trying to talk you out of it and by all means I hope you have a wonderful time if you find a place to go, but know that it's a brutal sport!

Hehehe - I don't know how I missed the response to this!

I am the Googlemaster of my family. If it is out there, I WILL find it.
