Hi there - I did the same thing - was on Metabolic for about 6 months. Lost 50 lbs and an amazing amount of inches. But then life happened - got married - new family - combining kids...cooking dinners again. I gained all of it back. I have spent the last 2 years beating myself up for it - but doing nothing about it. I have tried more than once to start MRC again, but just can't - I've done nutrisystem - all kinds of things. They don't work as fast as MRC, so I wouldn't do them because I wanted fast - and here I am 2 years later still not losing.

I just decided this past week - it's time. If it takes it a year to come off - then it takes it a year. I'm done with quick weight losses - I'm through buying tons of food that just sits in my pantry. I signed up for WW and am doing flex - and I'm eating, enjoying life - and knowing that I've cut my food intake in half, and the weight will come off.

I just think there comes a time when you have to say - ok, this is where I am - this is not where I want to stay, but I'm not going to keep setting myself up for failure by attempting plans I know I can't stick to. And then accept that it may take longer than you wish. Trust me, it's not easy - but I really think that's where I am now - and I seem to be settled and moving forward.

Good luck!

Quick weight loss will never work in the long run and most likely you'll gain it all back. Also, it's easier on your body/skin to loose it more slowly. Look around 3FC for some wonderful advice to loose the weight properly for good.

I don't want to repeat what has already been said about "slow and steady", and "trial and error". I'm sure you have heard it all. But now that you are feeling not so great, you still need to know that you are still down around 30 lbs, and that is an amazing accomplishment. I would try my very best to stop whatever is inhibiting you now, before the weight gain gets out of control. You sound like you might be a "comfort" eater, like me! Here are some suggestions from me, but keep in mind, I have only lost a few lbs (this time around):
- don't eat after dinner. a cup of tea with a bit of honey is a great dessert.
- get on a good muti-vit with a good b-complex
- carry a water bottle with you and drink a lot
- make exercise MANDATORY in your schedule, and do it, every day
- mix up the workouts. I do the elliptical, a quick walk on the tread, pilates, free weights, yoga, swimming, and just a walk around the block if I can't bring myself to do anything else
- replace snacking with a different hobbie. I pick up a great book, and girly magazine, a game on the computer, playing the guitar, learning a new song to sing, etc.
- if you must snack, go for friut, raw veggies, or unsalted nuts
- remember, you can eat anything you want, but only a TINY amount (have 1/4 slice pie, 1/2 cup icecream, but eat it really, really slowely.

I wish you the very best of luck, and this is just why this forum is here, to rant! If you ever need someone to talk to, check out my blog, or send me a private message. I really, really hope you feel better soon. You just don't know how much you have already achieved on your journey. Don't let this set back ruin the fact that you can do this!

Well I lost an average of 10 pounds a month which I guess is kinda fast by most standards. The best thing is to STOP beating yourself up over it,accept that it happened and make up your mind to start over...the quicker the better. I understand being upset over it but its time to do something about it.
I don't know what you did but I can suggest what I did on my diet. I am of the opinion that it is more important when you eat than what you eat. The old saying goes Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. I try not to eat after 7:30 at night.
More on my blog to explain how my daughter and I lost over 100 pounds together in 6 months. The blog is entitled How I Lost in Excess of 50 Pounds in 5 Months
Best of Luck,
Jarjonja

Hey, mommyof1

Don't worry, you are not alone! 3FC members know how that goes.

Many people never learn how to maintain their weight, thinking that the point is to lose it. The real challenge comes with maintaining weight after that. That's why you read people posting that it's a "lifestyle change, not a diet."

Instead of thinking in terms of short-term diets to get weight off, I now think more in terms of how I can eat for the rest of my life. No, that doesn't mean I have planned out my meals all those years in advance! What it does mean is that if you are mostly eating foods that you don't like to lose weight, then the program tends to go out the window once the goal is reached.

My weight loss strategy is to count calories. I use the FitDay tracking program, www.fitday.com to calculate how many calories I burn each day, average, and how many I need to eat, average, to reach my weight loss goal or to maintain it. FitDay is a useful tool because it has a big database of foods. And there are other tracking programs out there as well.

One reason I'm happy with calorie counting is that no food is totally off limits--but still, I do have to restrict amounts. And, I should note that there are some foods I cannot have around because if they are in the house, I'll eat them. I also watch that I'm not getting all my calories from junk foods, but instead from vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, whole grains, and some good fats.

3FC has reviews of many different approaches--you can read about them by going to the main 3FC page and clicking the Diets button.

Good luck! You can succeed again!

Jay

Hi there. This is NOT hopeless. You CAN and WILL lose weight again.

Sounds to me though as if the plan you were on, was not the one for you. If you can't stick with it and it's too restrictive for you, well then it just isn't FOR you.

When I started my journey I knew that it would be a loooong one. First of all taking off all the weight that I needed to, to get to a healthy weight and then MAINTAINING that weightloss - forever. Because of course, once I got the weight off - I wanted it to remain off. So therefore I had to think longterm. Very longterm. Yup, that forever word again.

So I needed to accept the fact that there would be no going back once I lost the needed weight. No quick fixes. That's an important line. No quick fixes. That meant that I could never, ever go back to my "old life", even when the weight was off. No more pints of ice cream, bags of cookies, double and triple portions of pasta and rice. Those days would be gone - forever. Of course I could eventually eat those things again in tiny portions, though very, VERY once in a while.

You need to find something that YOU too can do forever and ever. No quick fixes. IMO, you need to realize and accept, that this is indeed a longterm commitment.

For me that thing that I can do forever is counting calories, consisiting mostly of highly satisfying, nutritional food. The high fiber and high protein diet I eat helps curb my appetite enormously. Counting calories, for me, is the only way that I know how to set limits for myself. Anything else for me, is just fooling myself. Calorie counting is my verison of portion control.

I also eat frequently. Small meals throughout the day. It also helps that I LOVE what I am eating now. If I didn't love it, there is no way on earth I would stick to it for any length of time. So I spend a little extra time shopping, planning, chopping, slicing, dicing and cooking. It is time well spent. I make delicious food that never feels like a burden to eat.

There's something out there for you as well. Do a little research, a little experimenting. Find some healthy, low cal foods that you like. Play around with recipes. Make a plan. Map out your food for the day/week. No leaving you r food intake to chance over any given day, for me it's a sure way to make poor choices and veer from ones calorie allotment. Check out Fitday.com, like Jay mentions.

Good luck to you. I have no doubt with a little experimenting you will find that something that's just right for you.

If you really really want it, you'll do it.

When the point arrives whereby not changing is more painful than the idea of changing, you will change!

I have faith...anyone can lose weight and keep it off, if they follow the simple eat less than you expend rule, take it slow and make healthy changes for life.

at least you know now that you CAN do it.... the hardest part about dieting is getting the motivation to diet, you have your previous efforts and you can try to get back there. i had no idea what id look like if i ever got my weight off so i didnt know if i would feel better or look better but now i know and i vow and i will NEVER EVER let that weight come back on again!!! No way! Ive been overweight all my life and im now reaching the weight i should be and its opened a whole new world to me!

please dont beat yourself up! i have also done the "quick weightloss center" type of plan, spent wayyyyy to much money on it, and the minute you go off it your done!! these type of diets are just set ups for failure, the calorie restrictions, and types of foods you eat cannot be done long term. i think there were weeks when i ate as little as 700 calories a day, so yeah, the weight melts away, but it is not a realistic way to live. the minute you start to eat like a normal person, even 1200-1500 calories a day, you are going to start gaining weight again. i resolved myself to that fact and signed up for weight watchers, the point system works for me because i can eat just about anything i want as long as i count it in my point allotment for the day. its funny, i always stayed away from the ww plan, because it was such a slow weightloss, so i thought. but in the long run, i am much better off having done it this way. losing 1 to 2 pounds a week compared to the 6 or 7 is was losing the quick weightloss method, is slower, sure, but it is also long term weightloss. 11 months, and 72 pounds, and it doesnt feel like a "diet" any longer. sorry for the long rant, but dont feel discouraged, any plan that you can fit in your life that will give you results, that you can stick with, is the right plan for you. and faster is not always better. keep your chin up, you can do this. take it one day at a time. good luck with your weight loss!

I am so sorry to hear you have gained back weight. It happens to many people don't beat yourself up. Quick weight loss is generally not the best way to lose weight.

Changing the way you look at and eat food is sure one of the first things to do. Maybe try what I do. Use a salad plate for breakfast and lunch and a lunch plate for dinner. You don't need to do without anything really, just eat less of the things you like. There is no such thing as a food you are not suppose to eat. Maybe go to your doc and have them give you some limits. x amount of calories x amount of fat for example a day. Fit day is great to track all that stuff.

You can do it we all know you can and are behind you 100%.
