Default South Beach Book

Hi, I'm new to the beach, although I followed it about three years ago. Can you tell me if I can use my book from three years ago, or should I buy the latest book. Has it been updated since back then?

You can use the same book as before. There is a sticky in the SB FAQ section with the most current version of p1 foods. The same concepts remain on SBD they just added a few more acceptable foods.

Welcome to the beach!

Hi Steen and welcome!

The book is a great resource still. Just check the updated food lists as browneyedgirl suggested and also, DON"T follow the menus in the book when you transition from Ph1 to Ph2. There is some good advice here on this forum about how to add back your grains and fruits gradually. The book menus add things too quickly and your cravings may return. This is what got me the first time I tried SBD.

redd hatt, you've probably been dreaming about something! Start with that one thing for a few days. For me it was oatmeal, then strawberries. I couldn't wait to have a no-egg breakfast!

I agree with Schmoodle. I didn't crave cereal or any other type of starch but I did miss fruits. I couldn't wait to have an apple. So the first food that I re-introduced were granny smiths.
Welcome to the beach RED HATT!

Well, I started phase 2 with my breakfast...but I had a SBD cereal bar and my ricotta cheese. This is funny but the bar was soooooo sweeet to me. Before phase one I could have eaten at least two. I'll wait until tomorrow and start with oatmeal (I miss). Hope this works. I just don't want to stop my weight loss, although I think I need a little carbs because I'm so tired.

hi red hatt,

I reintroduced strawberries for 2 weeks, and now im onto blueberries/Greek yogurt/soy flour.
Anything with a low GI is good to start with introducing back. For fruits, that is the equivalent to all of the "berry" type fruits.

Good luck to you in Ph 2!!

Red Hatt...glad you're starting slowly. Yes, the SBD bars are very sweet. You had lots of protein at breakfast, which is great, but you really need to get some veggies in there for long-lasting fullness. Maybe cottage cheese with tomatoes? Or cottage cheese with fruit? Try to get veggies in at every meal and at least one snack.

Glad to have you both with us--why not introduce yourselves in separate threads so we can all welcome you?

Yeah, I have the old original book also...I peeked at the new updated one today at Wally World and he added low-fat milk and soy products.

What exactly are the SBD breakfast bars? What section will they be in at Wal-Mart? What other yummies do you girls like that is SBD..I saw the burrito wraps today in the sandwich meat section today. I do like to have a Lean Cuisine at lunch sometimes...Does anyone have favorites from SBD line?

Sbd bars are in the cereal section by the pop tarts, granola bars etc. I don't really use any of the pre-made things from the SBD line. The only thing I use is probably the SBD ranch dressing. I sometimes by the bars for road trips but I usually stay away from the stuff because it tends to be too sweet and some of them have iffy ingredients.

You can usually find the SBD cereal bars alongside the other cereal bars in the cereal aisle of most grocery stores, and the SBD meal replacement bars in the nutrition bars aisle. They should be used sparingly, as they are full of "frankenfood junk" and don't really adhere 100% to the South Beach Diet. I've found that they make me crave sweets and actually make me feel hungry after only an hour or so.
