Red face Why SBD works and is right for me...

I was answering someone else's question and exploded in a SBD sermon...so I thought I would share this independently. The person wanted to know if they should add fruit to phase 1 (as suggested by a Dr). Here is my response.

I would say that if you feel you really can't buckle down and do a true phase 1 then the fruit may help you get the detox benefit without falling off.

I would say, however, that if you can get past 3-4 days of phase 1 then you will be set. I have been on phase 1 since Monday and with full blown TOM! I haven't fallen off the wagon and my TOM has been easier and less crampy because of not eating sugar and heavy carbs.

I feel, and this really is just my opinion, which is what you wanted, right, getting 2 weeks of phase 1 really sets you up for success. I find that it helps me ease back into "healthy" carb intake and also reprograms my brain and body to not crave unhealthy things. I have been doing SBD since 2005 and I know you might saying...well why haven't you gotten to goal?

Because I have fallen off or tried to revamp the program and then ended up coming back. If I hadn't started this lifestyle I would be over 300 pounds now...I know that. I have insulin resistence and this WOE is a must for me. I will switch back and forth between this and WW, but ultimately when I want to feel my best I am back to SBD.

I have gained a greater understanding of my body and I also feel in control. I have never gained all my weight back and I am more in tune with my fluctuations.

I have given you way more than you needed...maybe I will repost this as my own subject...Why SBD is for me...LOL

I also want to add this...

This time when I switch to phase 2 I am going to do what is suggested by all the SBD Veterans. I am going to add one fruit and one starch per week. I am going to see how my body reacts and then do the same thing the next week. I absolutely know that I have trigger foods...while these foods are healthy, I go overboard. A couple of my trigger foods are triscuits, pizza, crackers. Will I never eat pizza again? Of course not! I need to limit it to once a month and not once week.

I need to start a blog...thank you for bearing with me this morning. lol

Hi Sunnybunny, you are doing great and I totally agree! I don't believe that skipping fruit for 2 weeks is a danger to anyone's health; that's a very limited time. Phase I was key for me as I was a sugar/refined carb addict, and I never could have stuck to the plan if I wasn't able to get rid of the cravings.

Great post, Sunny!

I totally agree. While fruit is helpful and healthy (which is why you shouldn't stay on P1 longer than 2 weeks), it would defeat the purpose of P1...and that would be a shame. Like Schmoodle said, you won't have a sudden nutritional deficit from two weeks of not eating fruit, especially when you're getting plenty of vitamins and fiber from vegetables.

Hi Sunny! Easing into phase 2 is a great idea. I know that I can only eat 1 or 2 pieces of fruit a day or my weight loss stalls. I also know that I can only eat a maximum of 2 whole grains a day, or my weight loss stalls. I wouldnt know this without slowing easing into phase 2. I also have insulin resistance and this is the first plan that has worked for me in a loooong time. I look forward to watching your progress. Are you going to use the blogs here on 3FC? If you add your link to your signature, I'll be sure to add you to my list of blogs that I take a look at each day.

hi sunny,

i totally agree with you. I just started PS2 and just eased into eating 1 serving of fruit per day. I am trying to be careful to not trigger carb cravings, but SB is the first WOE that I have been on that makes me feel great and 90 percent of the time I dont feel deprived.

keep it going!!

I'm into day 2 of phase 2 and I really feel good!!! This is the first time I've been on any type of eating plan that does not make me hungry, or feel deprived. I also like the idea that I answer to myself, I know more about eating theright foods than I care to admit! NO one EATS like that.YEAH!!!
