How's everyone today? It's taking longer and longer for the sun to come up, but we're supposed to have another sunny summerlike day. Maggie and I have a playdate for lunch and then going to a corn maze. In previous years I've always had to end up carrying Maggie through the maze, so I hope she can handle it this year.
Tomorrow Jake and I are going to a big crafts fair way out in the country, and I'm looking forward to that. I want to check out some furniture stores, too, for a livingroom suite. I still haven't found one yet that I love.
Morning All!
Cottage, sounds like a fun day...hope you find that perfect living room furniture! The upholstery lady came over here yesterday to measure my (parent's) sofa to be reupholstered and gave me the estimate (ouch!) She told me I could get a brand new sofa/love seat for what it will cost, but the quality of the sofa since it is so old is great and worth the price. I agree. I chose an expresso colored "fake" leather. ( Allante Espresso )I was surpised that the fabric looks so real..it is soft and buttery feeling. Even though the sofa is old,(1963) it is very modern looking and I can't wait till it is done...but will take 8 weeks. Called my Mom and she was thrilled I found what I wanted.
It is an icky hot rainy day here, so painting is out. I put on a pot of red beans in the slow cooker and got some work done, so the rest of the day is going to be played by ear.

Cottage, a corn maze is neat but maybe a bit scary too? Is that why Maggie needed to be carried last time? Gorgeous day is unfolding here too - we've lucked in this month.
Cat, older furniture is so well made compared to the new stuff. I paid an arm and a leg to get my couch re-done but it sure was worth it. I love the buttery leather - just don't tell anyone it's fake.
It's Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend and the village will be busy again with yard sales and stuff going on at the Mill. Then we will settle back to being sleepy "Mayberry" until Country Christmas the end of November.
Yesterday's at home day was full. I baked most of the day and have all my cookies packaged and ready for the sale tomorrow. Donna is coming to clean this morning and Hershey is going to the fur stylist while I do the banking and a little shopping. I have to make a starter for dinner tomorrow night at Claire's and am thinking of stuffing smallish tomatoes (Campari!) with some sort of soft cheese. Boconcini? Feta? I may do it with those garlicky Greek mashed potatoes. Can't remember the name but know it's not taramasalata. Maybe the brain will wake up before I shop!
Hersh is outside enjoying a bone on the deck. We went to the vet yesterday to pick up dear Lucy's ashes and weighed her in at 61 pounds! Her show weight is 47 so she has really porked up. Some of it is from gobbling the food Lucy didn't eat plus too many treats like biscuits.
Better get on with my day. Hollyhock comes tomorrow morning but the guest room is all ready for her. All I need to do is pick some flowers for the table and figure out what we'll be eating - one lunch and one breakfast shouldn't be hard. We are going to Claire's for dinner Saturday and she will be meeting another friend for lunch on her way home Sunday so....easy entertaining.
Enjoy your Friday and save some energy for the weekend!
Cottage I love craft shows, and the bigger the better! We have a great Covered Bridge Festival coming up here in the next week that I am so excited for! It's held in a near by county (the entire county) and each city is overrun with vendors, (crafty & flea market) and food to kill any diet! We usually spend an entire day in just one town and have trouble getting through all the booths.
Cat Glad you found what you were looking for, I bet it is going to be gorgeous and a piece to cherish for years to come!
Ruth I hope you enjoy your weekend. You are always so busy, you just amaze me!
Me My thighs are sore this morning! I did a 15 min upper leg series yesterday morning from my on demand on cable. I repeated the series last night! Shew do I feel it! The beginning yoga has had slim picking this month on demand and I have gotten bored with it. I decided to check out an advanced routine this morning and just modify where needed. Wasn't to bad only had to modify when Mr. Macho tried to get me to put my knees on my elbows and lift my feet off the floor (ha! I would have fallen flat on my face!) So between the upper leg series and advanced yoga, yeah I am sore, but in a good way!
Not much on tap for the day besides cleaning up some files here at work on loans that have closed and putting them away. Doing a hair date with DD tomorrow and then need to hit Sams Club as I am running low on some of my daily SB items.
I've been so busy already this morning! Did 3 loads of laundry (took up basically the whole quad laundry room!), got breakfast, read, and now am waiting to get one last thing out of the laundry so I can go get a shower before an extra credit lecture and classes! Yikes!
Her show weight is 47 so she has really porked up. Some of it is from gobbling the food Lucy didn't eat plus too many treats like biscuits.
Ruth, I found some "low cal" snacks for my dogs that they really love. Get them at Walgreens. It's called "Pupcorn". It looks like dog shaped "cheetos". Our dogs love them...especially the puppy (who has gotten BIG!)..she will do just about anything for them. I snap them in half so a tub of them lasts a long time.

Mornin' Cottage! Supposed to be a nice day here, too! Thankfully, it cooled down overnight... Have fun in the maize maze...hope you aren't carrying anyone when you walk out! Craft fair sounds fun, too!
Ooooh, red beans! I love those, Cat!!! Sorry it's an icky day, but hope it gives you a chance to relax a little and do stuff inside. Your couch sounds divine...what fun! Thanks for picking a fake leather...
Hope you have a good day, Ruth! Hollyhock is so lucky to stay with you...you're the consummate hostess!! I know it must have been hard to go to the vet I'm so glad you took Hersh with you and she gave you some comedic relief. Wow, Canadian Thanksgiving already? The year is flying by...
Wow, Pacer, you're doing a lot of workouts! That's great! Yeah, the yogi tried to get me doing that move when I was on retreat. It's called the Great Faceplant in my repetoire...
Allie, you're working your tail off! Hope your lecture goes fast so you can enjoy Friday!
Me:
DH's tonsillectomy went well. He felt great afterwards but it started hurting yesterday. Thankfully his pain meds are working well. He's a good patient...other than doing most of it himself. I caught him climbing into the shower when I ran upstairs this morning to grab something. I was worried he'd fall! Thankfully he was fine. I don't think he'll be in any condition to do much this weekend, but that's okay.
I'll probably spend the weekend winterizing the garden, getting some pumpkins to decorate the front porch, and working on stuff for my mom's birthday. I ran by Michael's yesterday to pick up more tape and some brown paper, and came home with a lot more than I planned...
Hello everyone! I got back from my trip last night and it has been CRAZY ever since. The phone won't stop ringing this morning, and I am behind on everything - laundry, no food in the house, DH just called and will be flying home this afternoon so I can look forward to sitting in rush hour traffic on the way from the airport. Yuck! Although I am glad to have him home. Eating was tough this week, since we were in the middle of nowhere and I didn't have my own rental car to go get groceries. Luckily I packed a bunch of stuff, but you can only eat so many snacks before you are dying for a real meal... I didn't eat anything that was way off plan, but I didn't eat a very balanced menu either, and I way overdid the nuts, thanks to the bag of trail mix that was the only thing I could find in the airport for lunch. I have no idea what the scale will have to say about this tomorrow morning. DH wants to go to our old favorite restaurant tonight, which is near the airport, so I've got to think about what I can eat there. I was really hoping to get back into my regular eating groove today. He's disappointed that my parents won't have the kids for their regular Friday night sleepover, but since they had them all week, I can't ask them to take them again for fun and games. I'm sure they need a break! Well, all I can say is TGIF and TG also for Monday government holidays!
Morning everyone! I hope that ya'll are having better mornings than I am.
I went into our laundry room this morning to start a load of clothes while I did my morning walk and the pile of clothes in front of the washer was infested with hundreds of fire ants. Of course I found this out after they were already in my hands, and I was bite numerous times before I got them cleaned up. I quickly poured ant poision all over the floor, started the laundry (thinking I could drown them) and left for my walk anyway. During my walk I decided that cleaning up the ants was more important than working, and by that time my hands were starting to swell anyway, so here I am at home. Fire ant bites always make me sick to my stomach (I think I must be allergic), so I think I'll lay on the couch and watch the shows I've TIVO'd this week. DH is off today, but I already made a pot of soup for today anyway, so food is taken care of, at least until we pick up DSS this afternoon.
Oh, Dixie, that's horrible!!! I've never been bitten by a fire ant, but a carpenter ant bit me once and it hurt! I can't imagine a ton of bites...you poor dear! I hope your day of R&R helps you heal, and that the ants drowned away--why were they in your laundry anyway?
Hi, gals! I'm swamped as usual between work and scouting. Last night I went to a Wood Badge beading (completion) ceremony. That was really cool. Almost everyone in the room had been to Wood Badge so we got to sing Back to Gilwell. We had at least one person from each of the 8 patrols and 5 or 6 of some of the critters. I got everything packed yesterday for the camping on Saturday. I loaded up the backpack with everything that would fit and Brian shocked me by carrying it around the house for 5 minutes. I didn't want him to hurt his back. He's too young to carry as much weight as it was but I guess my backpack is only a little too large for him.
I know the food at camp won't be totally on plan but I'll be too busy to eat a bunch of junk so I'm not going to worry about a hot dog for lunch and a hamburger for dinner. I'll be on my feet running games all day. It should be a lot of fun though and I have some games planned that I hope the boys like.
i was naughty today - i had a couple bites of homemade stromboli. one of the guys in my office makes this AMAZING to die for stromboli and i had like 3 bites...
but on the other hand, i avoided the 3 cheesecakes, homemade pound cake, doouble chocolate cake and all of the other goodies.
life is a double edged sword, i guess. who has the willpower dust?
I was SO SICK today! I even called in. I had the flu, the "both ends" kind. I woke up at 9:15 to it and was just miserable most of the day. I eventually figured out I had a fever too, and it broke every 30 minutes, so I'd be warm and my hands and feet would be sweaty, and then 30 minutes later it'd break and I'd just be soaked. Repeat.
I was starting to get concerned because after being on the couch for 3 hours without moving, my resting heart rate was 150 bpm. I was getting cardio just by lying down and trying to rest! And then I weighed myself after one trip to the restroom, and I was REALLY dehydrated. Lost 3 lbs today. Yikes. I'm trying to rehydrate now that I can keep fluids down.
Took something to conk myself out because I was just miserable and didn't even realize that I had fallen asleep until my phone rang at 5:50 and woke me up. I could SWEAR I had just been watching Dr Phil! Ever since I woke up, I feel fabulous. I had a grilled cheese before I napped (to go with my meds) and had some mac n cheese (hey, I was sick, I'm allowed comfort food) and have had no problems there either.
And I can burp without worry now!
Since then, I showered and have just been kind of picking things up around the house, doing some laundry, and doing the dishes. I can't believe it's 9:00 already! Geeez. I guess that's what happens when you sleep the day away. Hope everyone else is having a fine day! Talk soon.
