Default hello from western nc

hello i am in the asheville,nc area and could really use some good advice. i am 46 yrs old and raising 3 kids alone. my first child is 13, she is my sisters daughter but my sister died of lung cancer in 2002, so i adopted her. i have custody of my 2 grandaughters, 1 is 2 and the other is 5. i just feel so overwhelmed sometimes and i have a very limited support group. i am overweight at 225lbs 5'3 and am feeling very old. i live with my ex-husband who is very insensitive most of the time. i found this forum along time ago to get some lose weight tips but i haven't done anything since. i lack motivation, i guess its called depression. i am just hoping for some good advice on how to lose weight and how to get over my ex-husband and get on with my life while raising 3 more kids, i have raised 3 already alone and very scarred and scared to do it again. thanks

You have definitely come to the right place for lots of support and understanding while you travel the long and bumpy road to better health and fitness, Chickie.

This is a very inspiring place and it's also a very big place. So . . . have a good wander round and just hop on in and start posting wherever something catches your eye. I know you will always receive a very warm and welcoming in all the forums.

You certainly have a lot on your plate, my dear . . . but you will soon come to realize that everyone at 3FC wishes you well and we all hope to be able to help you on your journey.

See you soon . . .

Hey junome! Glad to see you here. You certainly have a challenging life, to say the least. Learning how to eat right and take care of yourself may help you to feel better.

If you want to try something simple, use the "plate" method. When you put food on your plate, use 1/4 for protein (meat, chicken, fish, etc.) and 1/4 for starch (like potatoes, corn, pasta) and then the remaining 1/2 should be a green vegetable (like salad, green beans, spinach, and so on). Use a lowfat or fat free salad dressing, and don't go overboard with butter or margarine. A little goes a long way! Try not to eat more than 1 piece of bread with a meal--maybe none, if you can--and don't have seconds. For some folks this can be a good, simple way to start eating better.

Good luck! Hang with us--we're open 24 hours.

I live near Greensboro, Nc
I am 39 yrs old, and understand wanting to give up and just sit down. I think just raising other people's children is a thing to be honored, it must be so hard, and I am sure there are times you ask yourself why? I don't know why are are living with your ex, but if you can move out, do, because you don't need anyone, especially an ex, putting you down, or being insensitive. I got over my blues, because I didn't have a choice, as you can see by my starting weight, I was near 300, I felt horrible and tired all the time, and felt worthless. I guess a few things made me sit up and want to live again. One I was getting dizzy spells , from high blood pressure, two my back hurt, and my feet were so swolen it hurt to walk; my 26 pants were getting tight, I was to tired to go out and do anything, even play with my daughter, my Dd was made fun of at school, all this just added to my blues.
Once this started coming off, I started feeling better, I had more energy and started getting out of the house more. I just started watching what I eat and exercising slowly, little by little increasing my exercise time. I know you can do it to!! Good luck and I hope to see you posting more.
