Default 30-Somethings Daily Thread: MONDAY, October 1st

As I was writing the title up, I thought of The Lords Prayer, thinking for us it should probably be "Give us this day our daily thread." Besides, we need this thread more than the bread most days anyway.

Yep - I'm in a pretty good mood today. New month. New week. New motivation and determination. Over the past couple of months, I have put on a ton of weight moving things in absolutely the wrong direction. Over the weekend, when I started to feel I needed to let out the belt ANOTHER notch, I said enough was enough. Once I'm done this posting, I'm starting my "new morning routine" which involves less time at the computer and more time exercising - off to the treadmill at 6:30. I've also got a weight loss partner in town here and she's the type of person to kick my behind if I don't stick to the plan. As to what plan? I don't know. I think it's going to mainly be: "more exercise, eat better & less" and we'll see where we go from there. See how long this motivation lasts - but I have about 6 months to lose about 40 lbs. Doable? With work, I think so....or at least I'll get darn close.

I also have an appointment with an optometrist this week to see about getting contacts. To be honest, the idea scares the crap out of me because I've had glasses since I was 7 years old. Kinda scary to be (possibly) losing them after more than 25 years.... People who have them do say it's life changing though.

Anyhoo - No time for personal notes but rest assured that I read everyone's posts, usually multiple times a day. You guys are far too awesome - and some great role models - to just ignore. And an extra for Mo, Michelle and anyone else who's down in the dumps.

Keep smiling. As long as the weight is coming off - even if it's slow - you're doing the right thing. You didn't pack the pounds on in 2 weeks, don't expect them to drop just as fast.

Hello All!

Sounds like everyone had a good weekend. GG...I'm very jealous of your Oktoberfest. I LOVE BEER!!! In fact, that is part of the reason I have to lose. After my sis's wedding last year, I stopped working out and drank beer probably EVERY WEEKEND for the last year. Bad idea. I drink light beer, but at 110 cal/beer x 6-8 beers, well, it's not good! BTW...have you seen Beerfest? Funny, funny movie.

RR..glad to hear it will be over soon. I actually have a terrific MIL, and she lives 20 mins away, so she will never have to stay with us. My mother is actually the one who's not great with the kids, but she's not as bad as what you're dealing with. Good luck to you

Rooster...I used to wear contacts...they are so much better than glasses. Well, last summer I got LASIK...HALLELUJAH!!! I love it. NO more glasses, contacts, nothing!!! I recommend it to anyone who can swing it money-wise. It's super quick and only one day recovery. WOO-HOO!

Anyway, like I was saying, I was down to 140 when my sis got married last July. Then just let myself go, eating & drinking whatever I wanted. I gained 14 pounds, not exercising not taking care of myself, which I usually am pretty good about. So, anyway I began seriously working out in June, about the same time I got an IUD...well, I had been using the treadmill since June, didn't lose any weight, then started doing the Firm (which I love) about 6 weeks ago, and I am now up to 163 pounds!!! What the___? I began thinking what could be causing this?? Then started reasearching the IUD and found so many message boards with women saying how they got it, and have gained so much weight, and feel like they are pregnant, along with other side effects, many of which I have and did not attribute to the IUD. Long story short, I am having it removed tomorrow. Hopefully this will be a turning point for me. It is extrememly frustrating to work out 5 days a week, about an hour a day, AND GAIN WEIGHT!! None of my pants fit. My legs and arms look a lot better, but my mid-section is a mess. So, wish me luck and hopefully you'll start to see my ticker move!!!

Have a great day, all

Pam

was gonna put this on the wkend thread, decided to put it here.

Joan...nice to have a hubby who knows when you need to get away, huh? Mine is like that too...what a blessing!

Karen...sounds like scrapbooking is a lot of fun. Wish I had time for it. I'm actually into decorating cakes & cookies and do it as a small business form my home, but its' very time consuming.

Alicia...hope your son is okay. It's so scary when our kids get hurt or sick & we're not sure what to do, right? I'll pray for his healing.

Christina...don't you love getting that kid of cleaning done? Sounds like you really accomplished a lot!

Lisa...best of luck on your ongoing job interviews. Hope it's everything you want. I get the Coldwater Creek catalog. Think I oredered my MIL a Christmas dish set form there a few years ago. They have really beautiful stuff.

Hanna...bet the sweater is gorgeous. I don't know how to knit. I can only crochet, and really I have only ever made baby blankets, but I love to make them. So, if anyone's expecting, let me know!!

Later all!

Mornin' All!

I got us all on one thread!

I'm with Roo, it's a new day, new month...time for a new start! I went grocery shopping last night, and DH gently reminded me on the way out the door to stay away from the dessert aisles! Bless his heart, I did, but it was hard! My morning is not starting out well, since I fell prey to a Lg. Pumpkin Latte and a Pumpkin Muffin at DD this AM. WTH?? I've never even had a latte...I don't even know what a latte is!! But it's pumpkin, so it has to be good, right? It is. *hangs head in shame*

But the rest of my day will be on track. I have a Lean Cuisine for lunch, string cheese for snacks, and I bought a bunch of veggies to make a crock pot full of soup for DH & I to eat during the week. I baked some chicken breasts yesterday to eat for dinner or whatever too.

As for you girls and the beer, I just say thank God I'm not a beer drinker! Can't stand the stuff. I drink girly drinks, but if I drink 2x a year, that's a lot!

Roo, How about Lasix?? Are you a candidate? I know it's expensive, but lemme tell ya', if I wore glasses, I would go lasix before contacts...can't stand the thought of anything in my eyes...I'm a mess with eye drops when needed.

Good Morning all and Happy Monday!

So saw "Knocked Up". Anyone else see it? OMG, the guy in that movie was a total loser. I know its a comedy but, it seemed unrealistic that anyone would actually stay with such a total a-hole. I dont know. Call me crazy but I just cant find the humor in a movie where a successful together chic ends up getting preggers with a major stoner underachiever and makes a relationship out of it. I mean there were some funny PARTS but overall, I would have to say this movie sucked.

Sooo, how was everyone's weekend?

I did the beach thing on Saturday. We went to this long stretch and Bella and I ran up and down the beach 4 times. We got soaked (and the water was freezing) but it was great. Sunday, I went to my cousins new apartment. She just left her psycho husband and is on her own for the first time ever. The place looked great and I was so happy for her. She is dating a new man (I think its too soon) and seems very excited about it. Her kids are cuties too. It was fun. When I came home, DH had made eggplant Parm and cleaned the house. What a sweetie!!

SOOOO, does anyone else do FITDAY? I put in everything every day. I have to admit, I get a little bummed when the new month comes along and I see a blank calendar with no apples or soccer balls Does anyone else feel this way?

Well, Im off to pilates. Have a great day!!!

Morning ya'll! Can't believe it is October all ready. geeeesh. Made a promise to myself that I would make more of an effort to exercise. Perhaps that way I I can see some weight loss regularly, rather than sporadically. I didn't lose anything this week. Which bites. But, I have been dealing with AF, not to mention the dayum cravings she brings with her. Lord willing, next week will yield a good loss. Just have to stick with it & not give up!!
On that note, need to go eat some breakfast & get busy!! Hope everyone is having a wonderful morning! =)

hi all I've been busy with work. we had new lots and they needed a lot of work and we had installs and I billed 17hrs worth of work in 3 days lol.

I was going over my bills and I had not seen the eletric bill since aug and I couldn't figure out why so I called them. I wasn't being billed because there cause someone took over the bill for my apt. see in my building I'm in 1A the apt below me is A1 and a new guy moved in back in aug so there was mix up. but now when I get my Oct bill it will be for 3 MONTHS! Aug, sept and oct. I didn't cause the problem but I'm sure getting !@#$%^&* by it. Thankfully I had the for sight to see something like this so I was putting away my payment into my savings. But still this bites.

Hope everyone has a great monday.

Good morning!

ROO I am so happy to see you so up bit!!! you made my day!!! stick to the new program with your buddy, it may take time to see a difference but you will!!!

RR One more day and it is over!!! be strong and ignore her as much as possible. it is funny you say the broom. I tell everyone my own mother doesn't drive a car, she flies a broom! honestly!

GG I am glad you are starting your week all rested! good for you!

Hi Pam! be consistent and give yourself some time, you will see results! As far as the IUD, I am glad you are taking it off, I had one put on or in in 1991 and I went back to the Dr. exactly a year later as I was suppose to, well the Dr. couldn't find it the day I came in, it was horrible, the next day he said if he couldn't get it he would have to cut me open to find it, fortunately he did get it out, it was very painful, I don't know if some of my infertility problems were cause by it, we will never know. Take it out!!!
DH is looking into getting Lasik, I am all for it! It is just a matter of him choosing a Dr. to do it.

Realitymom hang in there!

Lisa I love lattes, I don't like anything pumpkin thought. I don't know what FITDAY is.

I am feeling better today, thank G-d!!! I am going to the gym in a little while. I have to take the little yorkies for a walk, we usually don't take them out for walks they just run around in the back yard, the love running in the yard and chase each other, I love my little dudes! but my house is still naked, no fence! I am really happy to say I am going to have both little dudes at my house for a while, my friend is moving and her yard is not ready for the little guys to come over, they could get out very easily, it is going to take her a while to get that done, she has remodeled basically the whole house, it is gorgeous, but she is over budget quiet a bit, so the yard wall is going to have to wait a little longer. I am very happy to have both little yorkies here, they are a blast!

OK I got to go, DH is calling me, he needs me to iron a shirt Grrrrrrr... I just picked up laundry from the dry cleaners and they didn't do a good job, I think the problem was when they hang them and put them in the plastic cover they got cresses! I don't like ironing!!!

Have a great day!

Hanna

Laurie sounds like you are enjoying Bella a lot more, I am so happy for you. Yes I agree w/you on the movie thing, but I still think it was funny 1/2 the movie though!

hanna,

you dont know fitday? OHHHH I love it. you log in your foods, exercise, and journal there. They do all these lovely charts to show progress and show your nutrition goals. IE. if you are low on vitamin K, I will have a serving of broccoli or something. Plus show the weight loss in graphs and tell u how much u have progressed working out. I love it!!

I'm back...trying to get caught up on reading the weekend thread.

Hanna, it's me with the pumpkin obsession! :lol Oh, and I LOVE to iron!

Laurie, I have a Fitday account, but got sick of trying to enter everything! I should probably try it again. Didn't see Knocked Up, but DH will probably get it from Netflix. Is that the Katherine Heigl movie??

Christina, Have fun with the new job!

John, That sucks about the electric bill. Glad you were responsible enough to put it aside though.

Reality, that Hag will ruin any diet! She's here ruining my life too. On a good note, exercise is supposed to make you feel better while she's here.

RR, didn't realize she had flown in on her broom! Guess I have more reading to do! How long has she been there?

OK, I'll check in later.

Good morning everyone - I have just enough time to drop in and say hi. Im still adjusting to a new schedule and so far have only time to sleep, eat and work. Hoping I will adjust soon. My job is very very physical and that is the part i think that leaves me too exauhsted to do anything else. Hoping I will be able to stop by soon and catch up
