Can those of you that use Agave Necter tell me where you find it? In a health food store? A grocery store? If in a grocery store where is it usually at? Fruit Juice isle?
Agave can be found in organic section of grocery stores. Or you can find it at Wild Oats or Whole Food grocery stores. You can find it near the honey and maple syrup section in the organic isle.
Location: Marion, NY - about 30 miles East of Rochester.

I just go to my local store, and it's right there with the rest of the sugar/sweeteners. They don't have it in the organic section of my store, just with the regular non organic krap! LOL
Now, if you had asked me where honey is, I couldn't tell you. I've yet to find it! LOL
I have never seen where SBD has a position on it...but it's low on the GI even though it is basically fructose. I wouldn't got nuts with it and use it without limits, but I do use it on yogurt, waffles, in iced tea etc when I don't want splenda and want something sweet and "liquid". It doesn't take much to sweeten as it is a lot sweeter than sugar.
Agave nectar is a 100% natural sweetener from the agave plant. It's low on the glycemic index, and is even safe for diabetics, therefore making it ideal for using as a sweetener on the SBD. It does have 60 calories per tablespoon, though, so you should use it within reason. I think it tastes very similar to honey.
The grocery stores around here stock it on the shelves alongside the regular sugars and sweeteners, and I've seen it in the organic aisles, too.
Just as an aside, even though it is a good substitute for Splenda, I would NOT use it in P1. It would basically be the same as eating a low GI fruit, which we're not allowed to do. So stick with it only in P2 and like Cottage said, think about the calories, too!
I actually picked some of this up before I started on SBD but have yet to use it
You can find it in any "health food" store (ie: Wild Oats, Whole Foods, etc), and some grocery stores carry it in their baking section (near the sugar).
Quick question: how does Agave Nectar compare to either natural maple syurp or honey (on the GI)? My father is a bee-keeper, and I would love to enjoy his wares every now and then
Light Goddess, you can check them out here: http://www.glycemicindex.com/ (click on "GI Database" in the column on the left). Looks like maple syrup is pretty high while honey can be anywhere between maple syrup and agave nectar or even higher than maple syrup, depending on the insect, location, etc. How cool, though, that your dad is a bee-keeper! That's awesome!
