S/C/G: check the ticker :)

Height: 5'8

Default If you had to pick one thing???

I'd been struggling with gaining/losing the same 10 pounds -- I was doing all the right things, no JUNK, lots of water, moving, smaller portions, but now I've dropped over 30 and the ONLY thing "new" I can really think that I'm doing differently is eating a different kind of breakfast!

I was a coffee & low-fat muffin gal for a long time, but since I've switched to some protein (either cottage cheese, some low-fat turkey slices, etc.) with a high-fibre fruit (orange or pear) things have really started happening!

what have other folks noticed really working for them once they switched to doing it?

For me what has been working is a combination of counting calories and exercising. My calories range between 1400-1600,sometimes a little less. I don't drink any sodas, don't eat fried foods, I don't drink coffee, or tea.
Today's meal is like this
Breakfast- Kash go lean crunch cereal with skim milke( 1/2 cup each) and 5 ounces of grapefruit juice
Lunch - 2 veggie burgers( no bread), with pickled onions( central american style) and a tsp of ff sour cream
Dinner - Veggie soup
snacks - I have fresh mango , tlc bars, or ff vanilla yogurt and I add frozen blueberries.
I do allow myself a bar of dark chocolate once in a while, yesterday I ate 2 meringues( they have no fat , 20 calories, but lots of sugar),but it was a treat). I do not punish myself, because if I do not allow myself some treats once in a while( not everyday like before, but once a week, once a month, or whenever), but for the most part I am eating ok and feeling great.

Like Tracey, I have found that swapping sugar and simple carbs for protein, fiber, and whole grains have helped me so much. It's stabilized my blood sugar levels and kept me feeling satisfied throughout the day. It's been 6 days OP now and I no longer crave sugar.

Yes, protein is a biggie for me. I eat it with every meal and snack. Also, removing added sugar and HFCS and white stuff...ie, bread, rice, potatoes, pasta. This whole food eating style really works for me.

Boy, it's hard to think of one thing. Protein is a big one. Increasing my exercise intensity ranks high up there, too.

For me, honestly recording every mouthful + (weighing weekly). Okay, that's 2 things, sorry. I can't lie to myself or my body if I can see what I ate and the results of what I ate.
