Default Guess what?

It's 4:55am here in Cali and I'm leaving for my a walk/jog, that is sooo unlike me. Normally I would never ever wake up to exercise, I'd just do it whenever I felt like, but here I am getting ready to go. I chose to do it this early becasue it's still kind of dark and I DONT like people watching me exercise. I hope to get over that soon.

Here's something else I was thinking about, any of you ladies get scared about walking around al by yourselves? That is one of the main things that keeps me from doing it, it's so hot here that evening and early morning are the only times to comfortably do it, I hate feeling scared when I'm out there, like some bad guy is going to jump out of the bush at any second. I choose to stay through the neighborhood streets so maybe if something happens and I scream I'll be heard, I'm taking my son with me in the stroller, so that makes me even more worried. I'll be back and let ya'll know how I did. I'm going to try and jog some of it, I havn't jogged in years, lol.

Ok, I'm back
It didn't actually go as planned, the walk/jog ended up being just a walk.
I warmed up (or so I thought) then started jogging after 1 minute my legs started cramping up SO bad. I could barely even keep walking. After that was over I started briskly walking for 35 minutes.
I didn't realize how out of shape I was. I guess maybe I should just keep with the walking for a little while.

Shy - I know what you mean about being worried about walking by yourself, especially if it is dark. I live in a pretty safe neighborhood but still don't go out by myself when it's dark. I'm not so scared when it's light outside, especially if people are on their way to work and what not. Do you usually do your exercise when it's dark, or can you go out when it's more light, like early morning 8 am or so? Maybe it isn't so hot around 8 but at least the sun is up and it's less threatening outside.

35 minutes of brisk walking is awesome! I have never been able to jog comfortably, even when I was much lighter, so I am most definitely a fast walker. If you want something you can do at home, I recommend the Walk Away the Pounds videos. They go up to 5 miles (I think?), and man they make me break out in a sweat. Plus you don't have to leave the house to do it. Good luck!

NoVaVTFan- I ended up not leaving until the sun came up, it was still pretty early, like 6:30 or so, I walked outside my door when it was still dark and just felt uncomfortable about it so I went back inside until the sun came up. I live in a nice neighborhood but ya just never know.
How do the walk away the pounds videos work? Do you walk around your house? Is it maybe something I could do without having the dvd?

The Walk Away the Pounds DVDs are basically in miles (1, 2, 3, etc.) and you're basically just marching in place, and then other moves are added in like kicks, side steps, knees up, that kind of thing. You basically get up to a very brisk pace depending on how many miles you are doing. Hand weights are also added in for extra toning but you don't have to do them to get a good workout. I just do it in my living room which isn't that big so you don't need a big place to do it. I'm not sure how you could do the whole program without the DVD since the instructor guides you through, but I have read that a lot of people on here jog or walk in place while watching television, which although isn't the same as the DVD, it is at least something. Are you worried about the price of the DVDs or do you not think you have enough room to do it? I use a very small space, and I got a 3 pack with 3 different workouts from Bestbuy for about 14 dollars. You can also order them online for not much.

I definitely understand the concerns about walking outside, even in the daylight. I hope you are able to find some way to get your exercise in - I know it definitely makes most people feel better to get it in.
