Did you lose pounds or inches at first? I am actually losing inches instead of pounds. My stomach is tighter and so is my butt. I have been weight training along with cardio since I began 2 weeks ago.
I think I lost pounds first. Then again, I weigh myself every week and measure every month so it's not surprising I saw the weight first. Either way, it's great that they're going down.
I lost pounds first, then inches didn't come far behind. Now, I'm losing more inches than I am pounds. Abs exercises have helped a lot in the way of losing inches. At this point, I am most focused on inches and my overall appearance, as the scale is moving veryyyyy slowly!
I agree that for me it was pounds first, then inches. My first 20 pounds, I didn't do any exercise (this was a year and a half ago) and I think some of that weight loss must have been cannibalized muscle. Then I spent a year yo-yoing on a calorie-counting diet, where I think I got into better shape at the gym and lost inches, but not much poundage. Then, at the start of this summer, I started to lose again, but no exercise. I'm feeling flabby and I think again, some of my weight loss was muscle...
I'm adding exercise back in, and I'm hoping that even if the scale doesn't swing WAY down like it used to, that I'll at least be trimming up by hitting the gym/weights!
I lost inches first, well not first per se, but i lost more inches than pounds, ive lost 43 inches all over in comparision to the lbs - what plan are you following?! I have found with a low fat diet the inches seem to fly off at first.
All I am doing is calorie counting and exercising 5 days a week. I strength train 3 days a week and do cardio 5 days a week. Right now it is walking at 3 mph for 40 minutes. I do 2 reps of 16 on the weight machines. I seem to be losing inches faster than the pounds right now. Hey, they each get me into different size clothes, so I am happy with either.
I lost weight first, without noticing any real change in size or shape. Now the weight loss is slowing, but I'm beginning to get into different sized clothes. (Smaller that is.) So for me it was pounds first. Now both.

Ok a little off the topic - something that has always confused me - when people say this - what does it mean? I can understand "I've lost x inches off my waist" for example, but surely any "total" inches lost depends on the number of different places you measure? (pigginpodgey, I'm not trying to belittle your loss - this has me genuinely confused.) If folks don't specify the areas measured, how can it be meaningful to state "...total inches lost". I mean, I measure my waist, hips and bust - but I certainly won't be losing 43 inches total from those three areas, nor have I lost anything like 25" from the three, compared to the 25lbs I'm down to date. Is there a standard set of measurements used for inch losses?
haha jaxjob, I assume they mean the total loss of all inches - waist, butt, breasts, thighs, whatever else they measure...
me, I only measure my waist because that is all that really matters to me. I've currently lost 4.5 inches off my waist and gotten rid of my love handles... WAHOO!!! Uh, I just need to lose 2.5-3 more and I'll fit size 4's, assuming my butt and thighs will allow it.
LoL, jax, you may be surprised at how many inches you really do lose off waist, hips and bust. For me, to get from a size 18 to a size 14 was 25 inches at the start (in all 3 places). It was a real eye opener!
I lost (am losing) inches before pounds. My metabolism is a little bit on the crappy side, but I have no problem packing on muscle. So my abs are getting tighter, instead of staying baby flabby.
I don't really know. I think they kind of dropped evenly for me though...
I'd like to concentrate more on my inches. I mean that's what everyone sees right? They don't see a giant number saying 151.8lbs on my forhead, they see the curve of my figure, the muscles in my arms and legs, or the fat on my stomach.
I know you can't "spot lose" but if you weight train steadily, you can "reorganize" your body fat/muscle composition...
I lost the first 15 pounds fairly quickly, then I didn't lose any weight for months but I was losing lots of inches. Now I'm back to losing weight again but no inches, crazy!
I've always believed that I lose inches after the pounds. At times when I've plateau'd and not lost for some weeks I often find smaller clothes start to fit and people start to notice.
