I was wondering if there are any women who are on the taller side that find eating 1500 calories or lower is just not enough. I'm around 5'10 and I've noticed in the past I can't stick to 1500 or 1600 calories, I'll do it for a few days and I'll feel completely starved and exhausted. So I think I'm going to up my calories to 1800-2000. I'm a pretty active person, I have a 3 year old and 1 year old and workout about 4 times a week. Has anyone else had to up their calories to feel good and lose weight?
I'm not all that tall, but 1500 calories is not nearly enough for me. I feel famished on 1500 calories. The minimum I can do is 1600. Usually average out around 1700 - 1800. Everybody's different! If you're active, you probably burn quite a few calories.
At your current weight, you are in the normal range for BMI. It could be that you're right, and 1500 is just not enough for you. Try increasing your cals by 100 cals at a time, and see if you feel better and still are losing weight, even if slowly. It's harder when you're normal weight.
I think your calorie range does depend on your height, but I also think that depending on what you eat, you may feel comfortably full at different calorie ranges.
For me, it depends on where my calories are coming from. Doing Atkins, I get full eating very low calories because most of my calories are coming from protein and fat (which keep you feeling full longer). I actually have to watch my calories to make sure that I'm eating enough (I've been eating between 1300--1400/day). I've also done a higher carb plan in the past and it would take 1600--1800 calories to make me feel comfortably full.
Well it's definitley possible I'm not eating enough protein, I pretty much live on wheat bread and fruit. I eat chicken and eggs a lot, but probably not as much as I should. I'll try to incorporate more protein and see if that helps. Thanks everyone!
Yeah, a lot of it depends on the types of food that I eat. There are days that I eat more calories and feel hungry all day long. Other times, I'll eat very sparingly and not feel any hunger pangs. Protein does stay with you longer so it keeps you feeling full for longer.
Also, it depends on your activity level. If you're doing a lot of exercise, you'll need a few extra calories and if you're sedentary, you'll need less (at least in order to maintain--you'll always need less to lose! LOL).
Thanks girls! Today I'm trying to eat more protein. This morning I ate 4 egg whites with a little yolk instead of just one egg for breakfast and hash browns (no oil) and I felt a lot more satisfied.
