Wednesday Warbles - August 29 Chat

  • OMG! Nearly the end of summer! Time to start thinking of September Weightloss Targets. I can't believe how fast the summer has gone!

We had an impromptu end-of-summer BBQ last night and my weight is up again this morning. I wish people would just stop using salt! Claire's a great cook but her dishes always seem extremely salty to me. Clean eating and water is on my menu today.

Lucy and I take off to Ottawa and the $$ vet this morning. I certainly hope the diagnostic tests pin down her breathing problem. (I wonder if they make those portable oxygen tanks in dog size? ) I am planning a little retail therapy after I check her in to the hospital and even have a lunch packed to eat on the way home at one of the parks along the Rideau Canal. Keep your fingers crossed for me and my furkid! I'm really hoping they find a small stone or stick up her nose and can just remove it.

Time to get a bit citified and take off. I am planning to take along my cooler in case I find any bargain chicken breasts. I'm heading into my usual fall stocking up phase!

How does your Hump Day look?
  • Ruth...hope you and Lucy have a good day. I hope her breathing problem doesn't have anything to do with plastic from glasses lodged somewhere!

I have been MIA for a couple of days...so much work that I haven't been able to even get away for a few minutes to check in!

Today is kind of a sad day around here..2 yr anniversary of K. Like a dark cloud hanging over everyone. The day everyone's world fell apart. I see that Oprah is going to have a special on Katrina today, so I think I'm going to the gym early and watch it while on the treadmill. I can just walk off the sadness.
  • Morning chicks!

Ruth I will certainly keep my fingers crossed today for Lucy!! Be safe driving!

Didn't make it in to post yesterday- this week is turning into a whirlwind. School has started off great, the kids were pretty worn out by the end of the day yesterday. Abigail is in love with kindergarten- it is too sweet. We had the kinder curriculum night last night and it was pretty neat to be sitting there as a parent.

Did better with my eating yesterday, so my ticker is almost telling the truth!

Hope all is well with everyone!
  • Good Morning -

Ruth - I hope the doc visit goes well for Lucy and the solution is a simple one.

Femme - I am certain the anniversary will be well publicized, I hope you find comfort in the thoughts and prayersof everyone else (both 2 yers ago and again today).

Kiko - the first day of school, how exciting when you are young!

Today is actually the first day of classes here - thank goodness - the students need something to occupy their time other than drinking! We are off to out typical start! Things do always calm down after about a week.

My parents had us for dinner last night - totally not an on plan meal - but it was tasty and breakfast has already been better. They wree belated celebrating my birthday and their retirement (no back to school for them this fall!).

Hope everyone has a great day!
    Ally

  • Good Morning Girls,

Ruth Have a safe trip today.

Femme My thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone there today.

Kiko Isn't it fun to be a mom!

Amasam Nice to have someone cook dinner for you even if not on plan.

Well It is 4 weeks today, drum roll I have lost 13 pounds. I am so proud of myself. I have had a few problems with wanting cookies, but I haven't given in. Busy at work today, and also at home. My son will come home this weekend since it is a long one to visit. I am looking forward to it. I wonder if he will notice any difference in my weight?

I hope everyone has a great day. Stay cool.
  • Gooooood Morning! I'm late posting today, too many things to do!

Ruth ~ I hope you get encouraging news about Lucy , it must be very stressful for you. Try to enjoy your trip and your picnic by the canal, that sounds so nice!

Cat ~ What a sad day full of memories for all of you. I don't know whether it's good or bad to relive the day, but know that our thoughts and prayers are with you today.

Kiko ~ I'm so glad that Abigail is loving school! Is she full day or 1/2 day? It must feel pretty strange to you, going to meetings as a parent now. Is she in the same school that you teach in?

It's been a low-key week, with Audrey still feeling under the weather with her cold. I hope she's feeling better today so we can get out of the house! The weather has been gorgeous, it's a shame to have to miss it. We're just hoping that she doesn't pass the cold on to Maggie next!
I've been doing fairly well staying OP, except for the little slip-up I had last night when Jake sat down next to me with a bag of cookies. At least they were the lowfat kind. So far, he's been doing well without a cigarette, today is his 4th day without one! He's been eating a heck of a lot of candy, but at this point I'd rather he have that than a cigarette.
  • Happy Hump Day chicks, it is a hazy and muggy morning here today. Kids are off to school, laundry and dishes are going, and I just made ratatouille omelets for me and DH. Time to check in with my chicks and then get down to work.

Last night at Back-to-School Night, I saw lots of people I haven't seen over the summer, so I got lots of compliments on the weight loss. That was fun! And it helped me to see how much progress I've made since June.

cottage, glad to hear that Jake is sticking with it!
    bkstitch, congrats on the poundage!
    Happy belated birthday Ally!
Kiko, it's wonderful that Abigail is loving school. I've got one that loves it, one that hates it, and one that doesn't love it or hate it, but puts up with it. It's so much easier if they're motivated.
    Hang in there femme.
Ruth, hope they get your baby all fixed up.

    Have a good day chicks.
  • Ruth, I'm so sorry to hear about Lucy's breathing problem. Hopefully it's something easy. If she does need one, I found out they make special masks so you can give animals inhalers! We actually had to give our bun, Denali, an inhaler puff every night all winter long. Thankfully his allergies went away in the spring, but I'm anticipating a return to that routine this fall/winter, depending. Anyways, there's a cute little mask that fits over his face and it works really well, though he's not pleased about it, of course. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you and Lucy. Have fun at the canal...what a lovely lunch you'll have!!!

Cat, this must be such a hard day for you all, especially since there's still so much that needs to be done. I'm so glad that there's extensive media coverage of the fact that there's a lot of work yet to do--I hate the thought of anyone forgetting you guys. Anderson Cooper's doing a special on CNN too, though I don't know when it's airing today. Big cyberhugs to you I'll be at the gym watching Oprah at the same time as you--will think of you!

Kiko about the ticker telling the truth... I have that issue a lot! Although today it's actually HIGHER than I actually weigh, so that's the good kind of 'innaccurate ticker,' eh? Love hearing about Abigail in K...can't believe she's old enough!!!

Ally, at what kind of school do you work? I worked at a four-year college for several years and am now working part time at a community college. I hear you on students and needing to keep them positively occupied! Though I'm finding that CC students are actually much more adult in many ways...and they are usually holding down jobs, too, so the focus is very different. Fun, though! Happy Birthday!

BK, congrats on the 13 pounds...that's FABULOUS!!! You must feel so good and so much healthier! You know, if you are wanting cookies, you can make some healthy ones--I think I posted this divine recipe for Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate chip ones. I used semi-sweet or dark chocolate in mine and that meant I could only have them once a week during my 'chocolate' day. That kept me from ODing on them. I had two on the Saturday I made them, then popped the rest into the freezer. I'd pull two out when I wanted them on a Saturday and put them in the toaster oven to heat up. SO yummy!

Oh, Cottage, CONGRATS on Jake giving up cigarettes!!! What an exciting time! My mom has been off them for over 10 years now after several decades of chain smoking. It's made such a difference for her! Hope it continues for Jake! You take care and don't get Audrey's cold!

Schmoodle, isn't it wonderful to get all those compliments? It makes it SO worth it...and it's so much fun to see someone who hasn't seen you in a while! Good for you!

    Me:
Well, work has been pretty quiet...it's only the second week of school and I don't think anyone has any big assignments yet...though I heard they got an assignment back yesterday and some aren't happy with the results, so we may be seeing more customers! (I work in a writing center tutoring students) I have my second appointment with a student planned for today which should be fun. Unfortunately, it's during my planned lunch time, so I'll have to go a little early. Eating later makes it easier for me, but I don't think a half hour will make that much difference.

Hope everyone has a great day!
  • Okay. Day three of new meds and I am BEYOND emotional. I've been crying all morning. This is normal and should wear off with time. Blah, blah, blah. I'm really starting to hate this treatment.

I wish I had time to post to all of you, but I can't. Please have a wonderful, wonderful day!

    ~Kim
  • Well, I'm still here - I've been quite busy here at work, and starting a new project - yet again - today. I've got to find something for lunch, because my yogurt and apple aren't going to hold me over toll 7 or 8 when I leave here.

Gotta run and get lunch before my 1pm meeting, then I've got a 2pm meeting, and then work on the new project starts around 3....... It's no wonder I get home and am exhausted! LOL
  • Hey Ladies
had the wedding last night Lots of fun Not OP but Not bad! lots of grilled Veggies!!!!!!! Whenever DH has to put a suit on (he has a GREAT Selection) I hear the "I need to lose 30 lbs' grumble. So I think I'm going to pounce on it while I can and get him back in the healthy swing!
    I'll respodn to everyone later!
  • Let me just say, the pumpernickle bagel with ff cream cheese I got was horrid. I took 1 small bite, and threw it out. I really hope I don't get hungry, because I don't want to hit the vending machines.

If I do, maybe I'll take a walk to one of the newer vending machines, and see what they have. I've heard it's refrigerated, so maybe "real" food.
