I started Sonomaish on Monday. I am giving myself from last Monday until Sept 30 to loss 10 lbs. I think that is a realistic goal. (6 wks, 10 lbs.)
I also need to exercise and that's a big challenge for me. I do like to ride my bike, but the weather here is just so awful you don't want to be outside. Either its been raining, or hot and muggy... w/lots of mosquitoes to attach you.
Ev, you and I must live in the same part of the country because the mosquitoes here will eat you alive. They are as big as houseflies. Since I moved here from the east coast, I never saw mosquitoes like this before. I joke about dying from West Nile down here. If it isn't the mosquitoes, the heat and humidity is absolutely oppressive. I do walk my doggies almost everyday. Maybe not for long-15 or 20 minutes. Maybe longer when it isn't too hot.
I haven't put up a weight goal yet because I'm waiting until I finish Wave 1. I started on Sat. so I should finish next Monday I think. Looking forward to that.
Well, my long term goal is 30 pounds by January (which is my b-day and that will be a nice present to myself! I can put my "skinny jeans" in a box and open them, LOL.)
It's not humid here petra but I hear ya about the heat and bugs. I love hiking but unless I get up there literally at daybreak it gets too hot and buggy this time of year (little gnats that get in your nose and mouth, blech!!!)
What I've been doing the last few weeks of dire heat is the Prevention Magazine video "Dance It Off." I put it on my laptop in the kitchen in the early a.m. before anybody else gets up (and laughs and my 47 y/o butt attempting hip hop moves, LOL.) I really like this DVD and it was pretty cheap (Target.) WHat's nice is that they have different workouts (jazz, hiphop, latin, ballet) so you can mix it up and not get bored. The instructor is really cute and not so chirpy as to make you want to slap her in the a.m.
I'd like to get to 210 by the end of September (at 215 now so that shouldn't be too much of a stretch). I want to get to 175, but I don't have a set deadline. At the moment, I'm not feeling like putting any pressure on myself...I just want to change my lifestyle and let the weight loss be a benefit of that. As long as I keep losing, I'm happy! 175 is still a bit chunky (I'm 5' 6.5"), but I don't want to get fanatical about it.
I have my book now - arrived after posting yesterday! I was planning to start today but have had NO sleep (thanks to puppy) and I think I'll do meal planning for shopping today then start tomorrow.
My goals are at the bottom - I don't plan on changing them because I'm starting a new plan. The early one might be a bit tough, as I've been at a plateau for a month now, but the scale moved down at today's weigh in.
OK, now that I've finished Wave 1 and have a clue how much weight I still have to go I can make some kind of goal. I am hoping to get to ONE-der-land again (yes, I used to be there) by my birthday which is Dec. 14. That's 16 lbs in a little over 3 months and that doesn't seem too outlandish.
petra65 that is an excellent goal. 16 lbs in three months is very doable. Having a birthday goal is nice, isn't it?
May I ask how much you lost on wave 1? I'm just wondering since my weight loss has been high this week so far - from 174.6 on Friday to 170.4 this morning. Although I usually have a high weight loss week each month, this is more than average for 5 days. My calories are pretty low, so I expect a bigger loss but just wondering on others' experience. Wave 1 for me isn't over until Monday, I'm enjoying the Sonoma way so far.
