Default Does not eating destroy metabolism in ALL circumstances????

I've had a high fever since Sunday (three days ago) and I haven't been eating anything. My body tells me it's okay and it doesn't want food yet (soon but not right yet). I will start eating soon and I have been drinking a lot of water so... two days of not eating -because I was sick- wont mess up my metabolism too badly will it?

If I have lost any weight during this time, will I gain it back if I am careful to still control my portions?

I usually eat very healthily and stay within my range while only losing about a pound a week. I've been doing everything right as far as slow weightloss goes. What can I expect once I start eating again?

Your weight might be artificially down (nothing in your stomach/insides, not much fluids) which will rebound when you start eating again (this is normal and expected). Two days of not eating due to illness should have no effect on your metabolism.

What is the cause of your high fever? Three days of high fever is not normal--you should see a doctor or other health care practitioner if you haven't done so already.

The fever means your metabolism is up. It may be because your body is fighting infection of some kind--virus, as in flu, or something else. That means you need nutrients to keep it going. Try clear broth like chicken broth as well as continuing to drink your water. Three days without food is too long, IMO. I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice.

You'll likely gain the weight back once you eat normally again, but it's likely you are losing muscle as well as fat.

I hope you get better soon! See your doctor?

From MSN Health:

Quote:
Call your health professional today if you answer "Yes" to any of the following questions.
Do you have a fever of 103° F (39.4° C) to 104° F (40° C) after 12 hours of home treatment?
Do you think you have a moderate fever after 12 hours of home treatment but you are unable to measure your temperature?
Have you had more than 1 fever without an obvious cause in the past 3 weeks?
Have you had a recurrent or ongoing fever after traveling outside your own country in the past 6 weeks?

You may wait to see if the symptoms improve over the next 24 hours (or specified time period) if you answer "Yes" to any of the following questions.
Have you had an ongoing fever of 102° F (38.9° C) to 103° F (39.4° C) after 24 hours of home treatment?
Are you older than 60 with an ongoing fever over 100° F (37.8° C) after 24 hours of home treatment?
Have you had an ongoing fever of 101° F (38.3° C) to 102° F (38.9° C) after 3 full days of home treatment?
Have you had an ongoing fever of 100° F (37.8° C) to 101° F (38.3° C) after 4 full days of home treatment?
Do you think you have a mild ongoing fever but you are unable to measure your temperature?
If it's 104+, just go straight to the doc. It could be a sign of a more serious infection.
Hope you feel better soon.

I echo the thoughts of the others here - feel better and see a doc perhaps?

You work on getting yourself better and don't worry one iota about messing up your metabolisim from a couple of days of non-eating. It's just not the case.

I'd definetly call a doc if you haven't already. As far as not eating I wouldn't be too worried as long as you are drinking fluid. If you feel light headed or dizzy a few crackers may help. Hope you're feeling better

I just read an article that reported that exercise has been shown to reverse most if not all of the metabolism lowering effects of chronic dieting, age, and even some medications. Good news!

Thanks for your support ladies. It's amazing how I've never met any of you but I can feel your compassion through the computer screen. Thanks for that

I went to the doctor and I have pnemonia
She said that I shouldn't be forcing food down and I should be just fine as long as I take my medication and drink lots of fluids. THAT I can do!

I thought I'd update you!

Well, I lied.
The 'doctor' wasn't really a doctor, it was a nurse practitioner. Aparently Primary Care doesnt take walk ins anymore so I was sent to CVS (a pharmacy) where now they have a funny little walk-in center with physician's assistants and NPs. Good enough for me! Thanks for your concern. Y'all are wonderful.

Whatever you lost while sick you will most likely just gain back when you start eating again, yeah. And I doubt it will hurt your metabolism... unless ya keep not eating! I was sick for 2 days a couple months ago and the scale said I lost about 10 lbs... it came back 2 days later though. Hope you're feeling better.
