Wow. I've never heard of that. I'd see a doctor! Good luck with finding an answer!!

Never seen anything like that happen. Not that quickly, anyhow. I know one time I was having an allergic reaction to this med I was taking, and every time I would have an itch and scratch it, the entire area would swell up in hives for about 15-30 minutes. At one point, I had barely touched my ear and it swelled up HUGE. I was terrified and went to the doc. No biggie, but it was scary to see and feel.

I'd check on web md, see if they have any advice. And if not, definitely make a call to the doc. Probably not a huge deal, but worth checking out.

While I would guess that it could be a severe allergic reaction or perhaps a problem with your lymph glands, I think you should see a doctor to get to the bottom of this.

Take care.

I've only had anything similar happen with an allergic reaction - but it was only similar in that my eye lids swelled. Other than that it was slow and not reoccuring. I think you should see a doctor.

Are you using a new face lotion, contact lens solution or anything else you put in or near your eye? I would definitely get it checked out.

Yeah, this is definitely something to seek medical advice/treatment for. If it is allergy related, sometimes they get progressively or suddenly more severe. I'd get in to see a doctor (even if it doesn't happen in the mean time) for a checkup. If it does occur before your appointment, go into a walk-in or emergency room, if at all possible, and try to get a photo (hopefully digital) immediately at home, because unless you're "lucky" while you're sitting in the waiting room, it will go away before someone sees you.

If your eyes get dry at the same time, do you think your tear ducts could be plugged? And then the pressure gets great enough to force the tears out, then they plug again, etc.?

I would probably start with your primary care doctor. He might be able to run some tests that will help him decide who to send you to (an allergist, a rheumatologist, an optomologist.

I mention rheumatologist because autoimmune disorders usually fall in their lap, and their are some autoimmune diseases that affect the eyes like Sjogren's syndrome.

Gosh, after your description and Shellie's post, I wonder if it is your tear ducts being clogged or a sinus infection or something along those lines. Have you ever had a really stuffy nose/sinuses and when blowing your nose you felt air come out your tear ducts? (Please say that isn't just me!) If it were air in there it would explain how quickly the lids inflate and deflate. The tear ducts are connected to your sinuses. That's why when you cry your nose runs- it's from the excess tears. Coupled with your dry eyes it does make some sense to this non-doctor!

Sometimes I get little ticks around my eyes. I don't know if it's a muscle twitch or a pinched nerve, but it's something you can visibly see when you look in the mirror. Maybe your nerves and/or muscles are doing something similar to that.

And yes, CLCS, I've felt the air come out my eyes too. Isn't that freaky?!

I had Lasik this year and I do remember that they put some kind of plug in my tear ducts. What someone said about the tears kinda makes a bizarre kind of sense. But yeah, I would see a Dr about it.
