I had to share this. I may not be posting this in the right forum...forgive me if I'm wrong!
I am reading a comic book from the 60's and it has all these funny ads in it. Here is what one says:
"TOO SKINNY? New scientific discovery helps you put on weight. Put on weight wtih Health Aids Tablets. Improve your figure and looks by adding a few pounds and inches in the right places. Don't be skinny because of bad eating habits. Gain as much weight as you like. Guaranteed safe for Man, Woman, Teen-Agers."
HAHAHAHAHA I didn't have to pay $2.98 for 100 tablets, I did it naturally! Isn't it funny that back then, you had to pay to GAIN weight and today all the products are to LOSE weight? "because of bad eating habits"...you gotta love that. It's amazing how times change.
That is funny, isn't it? No one wanted to be too thin then. Beautiful women were Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Ingrid Bergman... None of whom were what we would call thin today.
OMG! That is great!!! It's so funny how perceptions have changed over the years.
bnorah, I agree, 00 is just way too thin! My cousin is that size and I do not find that to be attractive at all!! Personally, I think a size 6 is perfect!
That is funny. In the 60's my mother was Twiggy thin. I made a comment to her once while looking at photos. She said she would take weight gain pills and drinks! GASP! I sure didnt take after her lol
When my parents were first married, my father took my mother to doctors because she was skinny. He called her Olive Oyl. He thought there must be something wrong with her health if she didn't have more meat on her bones. He got used to it, but was concerned early on.
You know what, I find there are still many fans of curvy and even a little generously proportioned women.
trooworld, I just noticed we had the exact same starting wt. and goal wt.
BattleAx, OMG , I had totally forgotten that when I was young and skinny, I used to be called Olive Oyl. LOL. Later on though, I think my nickname became Big Bertha.
When I was about 12 yrs. old, I do remember wanting to gain weight. I just felt horribly skinny. By george, I managed to do it.

Big Bertha, that's funny Lily.
When I was little my nickname was pickle, because I was as skinny as one, even skinnier. Lord knows what people were calling me when I got heavier.
Yeah....i've never needed to take pills to "gain" weight. It just comes to me naturally. I have to work to not gain weight. Yeah...thanks to the media, none of us will ever be "thin" according to society!!! I don't want to be a stick. I'd like to keep some curves like in the hips and boobs and even having a butt would be nice. Funny how times change!!!
Oh my! Well, I will tell you that my older brother used to have these fattening up shakes my mom made for him (he got the skinny gene in the family) was like a skeleton as a kid. Not that he didn't eat...all 4 of my brothers ate like it was their last meal on earth..Me too!
Funny that the older one was skinny...I was always overweight and my other three brothers were normal weight. Darn those boys!!
Ok, this is no joke, when I was 13-18 I couldn't gain weight. I grew to be 5'9 in some grown spurts - when I was desperately trying to lose weight after a baby three years ago my dad laughed, saying he remembered when I'd eat everything I could trying to GAIN WEIGHT. Yes it was the early to mid 80s and they had gain weight pills. I never took them but I would cook up entire boxes of brownies, I'd make huge bowls with entire boxes of macoroni and cheese, I'd eat out hamburgers and fries. I couldn't gain weight and was so stick thin. I went off to college and other girls were on diets - so if they didn't want their food as they counted calories - I'd clean up after them, just send it my way! I did add some weight in a dorm and the good thing is I was in California wearing skimpy little bikinis year round. So now that I'm huffing and puffing to get the weight OFF - it is amazing! Because for years and years I didn't ever look at calories, ate everything I wanted. I had a good run, then hit my early 30s, continued to eat junk and it caught up with me. Those skinny eat everything in site days are over!
Jay: those women were beautiful. It's too bad that today's actresses all have to be a size -0- to make it. Well, there are exceptions...Kate Winslet is a nice exception.
Feelinggroovy: size 6 would be nice, but I will settle for a 9 or 12.
Lilybelle: you know, it's nice to know that you were my starting weight and you made it to your goal...it gives me hope that I, too, can make it down to a healthy size! I used to be really skinny, too. I remember my dad calling me bean pole once. Boy have times changed!
lumifan: I definitely want to keep some curves...butt, hips, boobs. I don't want to look like a little girl. I don't think I will lose those things, when I was the weight that I want to be, I had those things.
Actually....sorry but it sometimes get to me..Marilyn M WAS thin for most of her life at least. Sure she had breasts, but wow she was not what we'd call "curvy" or whatever today, she was a UK 8/US 4.
Marilyn Monroe: Height 5 ft 5-1/2 in. Weight varied from 115 to 120. Measurements 37-23-36. Her BMI put her in the Normal range, though toward the low side.
