I haven't done a juicefast during a successful period of weight loss, but I have done a couple and really enjoyed the process. I wonder why you would want to count the calories though. First, the cals are really low so it's not like you're going to be gaining weight, and second, fasting (in my experience at least) really throws off your metabolism for a couple days, so any weight you lose during that period of time is coming right back as soon as you eat something. It's not a good weight loss tool, on the whole, but I do think it can be a good springboard if you're thinking of changing your diet in a radical way. I did one last year before recommitting myself to a vegan diet, and the shock to my system was fairly effective. Plus I thought it put me really in touch with my body. I will say, the most important thing, which probably you already know, is to take steps to make sure your body still, you know, excretes stuff. Psyllium husks and "smooth move" tea are a faster's best friend. I'm no scientist, but I would guess that might help with keeping the metabolism up as well, since it keeps your digestive system active.
