Default Meltdown

Boy did I have a meltdown last night. It was hot, I was tired, and I waited too long to eat. I did plan ahead, but events messed up my planning. I guess I needed to plan even better. I really hate it when I get obnoxious and out of control.

I seem to get hungry all of a sudden and then I get nutso. Most of the time I am prepared, but yesterday, I think the problem was that I didn't get quite enough calories earlier in the day, and was never able to catch up (now why doesn't that lack of calories show up on my scale? ). Probably I was dehydrated, although I did have plenty of water.

I tried to buy a single serving salad at Costco, but they only had multiple serving sizes and blah, blah, blah - frustration. I think I need to carry something in my purse that doesn't require refrigeration.

Has anyone else had this experience? What do you do to avoid it?

That almost happened to me at staters yesterday. I wanted tortilla chips and 1 serving wouldn't be so bad, but then I would want 2, and if hungry.......I was looking for at least baked but didn't see any and finally I stopped myself and said you have a banana in the car! Eat that and make lunch at home. So I did. Carry nuts with you too!

I sort of had that problem this weekend. I had my food plan all planned out for Saturday's trip to the beach with the kids. But then i left my food at work in the fridge, couldn't drive back to work to get it before the beach (that would be an hour out of our way), so i ended up eating what the kids ate, but I tried really hard to watch my portions. Sometimes...no matter how hard we try, we just can't always stay on plan. Just try to be as prepared as you can be and don't freak too much if you go off course.

Sorry if i'm not helping.

My weakest moments are when I'm really hungry. I know this so I plan as best I can to eat every 3-4 hours. I also keep "just in case" items in my car and/or purse like Luna bars (180 calories), an ounce of nuts in a baggie, or maybe a serving of Kashi crackers.

I definitely think having non-refrigerated stuff available for emergencies helps a lot.

Well, you gave me an idea. My snack mix, which incudes nuts, seeds and dried cranberries. It has lots of good calories, and I am sure would have been perfect to have along.

I like the Kashi breakfast cereal, so I will check out the crackers. In the meantime, I have Wasa krisp, which would probably work.

So the plan to avoid meltdown: Stuff in my purse.

I also get sooo hungry when I've missed eating - often on these very hot days. I think it's too hot to eat during the day and then - Whamoo. One thing that saves me is the minute I walk in the house I drink a large amount of water and have a fruit. Then I go do something for 10 or 15 minutes. Usually I can then eat a more reasonable amount.

I've been having no appetite at all the past couple of days! I got hungry once today, and I happened to be driving about..so I ended up stopping for a chicken sandwich and fries at Sonic while I still had an appetite LOL..Even with that and the food planned out for the rest of the day, I am only at 1350 calories.

Today when I got home from work, I had a peach, 1/4 C snack mix and a glass of ice water, so I was only my usual cranky self, not balistic.

I have had that happen a couple of times. What a bummer!! But I did learn that when I skip breakfast ( side note: I NEVER ate breakfast before I started this way of eating and have found *they* are right, it's the most important meal of the day.......) I have a tendency to want to "snack".
The prepared 100 Calorie snack bags are a good back up plan. I also count out a portion of nuts and put them in a zip lock snack bag. I need the extra help of the portion size.
Don't beat yourself up over a slip, hopefully just learn something from it!

Here is my secret weapon-JERKY!!! Jack Links, Oberto, etc. Small packets.
Usually around 70-140 cals, lowfat, (watch the sodium tho). This is an INSTANT hunger eliminator. The protein in there just knocks out the hunger....
