Default just starting out - need fruit advice...

I have been struggling lately trying to find out which approach i should try this time around....becasue this time i am planning on losing the weight for good.
that said i am trying to determine what i should do at this point because i need to eat fruit - daily infact and i cannot possibly imagine not eating it for 2 wks.

i was thinking about trying the abs diet because it seems really similar to SB but a bit more lenient.

any advice is appreciated

thanks!

Well honestly, I think eliminating fruit until you know it's not a problem for you is the best idea. If you're not going to, try to go at least a few days without it and then only have one serving a day.

I'm going back on P2 next week because some health issues have made me slip up a bit (limited to whatever food my roommate who has no concept of healthy brought back to the apartment) but I'm keeping one serving a fruit since I know which fruits affect my cravings. I found that the first time I did SBD, I had an apple halfway through the 2nd week of phase 1 and it totally threw me off... but you don't know what fruits will cause you to get crave-y unless you eliminate and add back slowly.

You'd be amazed at what you can do that you can't possibly imagine doing

Is there a medical reason why you need to eat fruit?

The reasoning behind the no fruit in phase one is to help you to get rid of all sugar cravings...kind of like a detox from sugar. I also did not think I could go without fruit for the 2 weeks, but did it...and it really did work. (and fruit has never tasted so good or sweet since then) Before I didn't actually taste how sweet it really is..now it is a real treat and I enjoy it so much more than I did before.

no medical reason i just already really limit my sugar intake - mostly consuming only fruit sugars at this point so i dont see the harm in really eating say a apple or a cup of berries daily. but i am concerned i will not get the results i desire if i skip this step. any thoughts?

If you're talking about weight loss "results" then really, it's mainly water weight that comes off during Phase 1.

If you're talking about reducing cravings "results" then you really will get better results by eliminating the fruit.

I didn't want to either, but by doing the full two weeks to detox from all those sugars, I completely eliminated my craving for breads, candies, cookies, cakes, donuts, ice cream, etc., etc., etc. It's amazing! It was completely worth it for two weeks to be free of those feelings now!

You have to make the decision that's best for you, of course, but I can tell you that getting through Phase 1 is tough, but I would definitely do it over again.

Hi, I agree with Kara..although once you commit to it fully it wasn't so bad..every 'diet' or way of losing has SOMETHING you can't have, maybe a diet(way of eating to lose)like weight watchers,or l.a.weightloss which has fruit on their plan would be a better fit for you if you absolutely can't go two wks.w/o fruit. choices~

Look at it this way, it's only 2 weeks out of your whole life. That seems doable to me, especially if you take it one day at a time. The focus of Phase 1 is to de-tox your body and eliminate all your cravings, thus giving you a fresh, clean start on this healthy way of eating. Fruit is high in natural sugars, which can cause cravings that lead to eating other foods that should be avoided. That is the whole concept behind the South Beach Diet.

That being said, there are cases where people have had fruit on Phase 1 and have had no cravings, but for most of us, it doesn't work that way.

Good luck with whatever program you decide to go with!
