Default An Introduction: Former Fat Girl

This is actually my second post of 3FC. My first one was on a thread that completely caught my attention and inspired me to sign up in the first place

I'll put a little about myself here--I'll likely start a blog where I'll go into maybe even more detail, but here is a good place to start.

I'm 22 years old and I had been overweight since childhood. Since the age of 14 I've gone on different diets (the first one was caused by having to take Prednisone for an illness--a sterioid which caused me to shoot from 180 pounds to 210 pounds in a month). The first one, Suzanne Somers' plan, I lost 30 pounds on--losing what I had gained from Prednisone, but I never went below that. I stayed about 185 throughout High School and the start of community college. When it came time for me to go off to a 4-year school mid-Sophomore year, I decided that there was no WAY I was going to gain that first year "freshman 15" thanks to school food. So, I decided to do the South Beach Diet and exercise and I lost 20 pounds that first semester (my version of SBD was pretty low-carb most of the time. Really, more like Atkins).

It's been a little over a year since then and I've lost and regained 5 pounds in that time. I had given up SBD and decided to just "eat healthy" and count calories. Except that didn't work for me. I'd do good 5 days a week, then have an all-out sugar/refined carb binge for two days in a row or one day, and it was just no good. I did that for a year.

When I came back from school this Spring, I decided something had to change. I NEEDED to lose those final 25 pounds (I was 165). So, after listening to The Fit Cast, my favorite Podcast for months, and hearing from Cassandra Forsythe about the benefit of Ketogenic diets, I decided to try it. After two weeks on 50 net carbs/day, I bought a copy of Atkins' book and began his "Induction" phase at 20 net carbs/day. So, after three weeks of Ketogenic/Atkins I'm down to 153 and my clothes fit better!

I'm only 13lbs away from my goal--and if I get to 140 and realize that I'd like to lose maybe 5-10lbs more, depending on how I look/feel, I'll do that. I've never been 150 my entire teenaged/adult life...so I don't know what I'll even look like at 140--I was probably 140 as a half-grown 10 year old.

I found 3FC while looking for an Atkins Support group and thought that it would be an excellent place to have support during the final leg of my journey. I'm no longer considered overweight by the height/weight charts, or by myself--but I've still got a little way to go before I'm ready to call it "Maintenance"--so I dub myself a FFG (Former Fat Girl).

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone else's stories and giving/receiving support!

Thanks Kara and Mary! It's nice to be here and to have the welcomes! And thanks for the compliment, Mary---you're a hottie yourself. I see we share that regal cleft chin and high cheekbones I'd venture to say that if you were blue-eyed and had faux red hair--we'd look kinda alike, no?
