If the rest of your friends and family want cake you could make cupcakes or mini cupcakes. That way you can have just one and its low in calories. Also, I just made this pie that has no added sugar and is REALLY great! And it comes out to 48 calories, 0 grams of fat, 7 carbs, and 4 grams of protein for 1/8th of the pie:

Crustless Zesty Lemon Pie
2 packets of sugar free lemon jello
32 oz container of Vanilla Dannon Light and Fit yogurt
.5 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp of finely grated lemon zest

- Put the yogurt in a microwave safe bowl and mix in the two packets of jello.
-Microwave the yogurt and jello for two and half minutes or until the gelatin is dissolved
- remove from microwave and stir the bowl once more. Add in the ginger and lemon and stir again.
- Spray a 9 inch pan with PAM and pour in the jello-yogurt creation
- It normally takes 3 hours to firm up in the fridge.

Its really good and I like to put 1 tbs of chopped walnuts on top. Its my fav. I made an orange version of it last night and I have yet to try it. The lemon was amazing though

I made a healthy version of carrot cake the other day that turned out great! In fact my son's birthday is in September and he wants to have that for his party (and he is turning 7) so maybe if you guys like something along those lines you could try that? I modified a recipe and it came out to 150 cal per 2x2 square, I mostly replaced the oil with applesauce and that helped tons, then I added oats and fiber one in place of some of the flour to increase the fiber and protein. Good luck let us know what you decide.

My favorite is the Hunt Snack Pack Pudding mixed with Cool Whip Light - you can layer it in parfait glasses with plain Cool Whip and it looks great, tastes great and is right at 100 calories per serving.

I have a recipe for Banana Cream Parfait. My entire family loves this and requests it for most get togethers. It tastes like old fashioned banana pudding and only contains fat free sugar free vanilla pudding, cool whip free, bananas, and crushed reduced fat vanilla wafers (40 wafers for about 20 servings - which is a doubled recipe that I put in a trifle bowl - or you could do individual servings in juice glasses). If you're interested, I can post the recipe/process (not really a recipe, it's so easy).

Anyway, good luck and happy birthday!

Another good option is angel food cake. I make mine with a mix of splenda and sugar because when I use all splenda I can taste it and don't like it as much. Just remember splenda tends to be a little sweeter than sugar so use a little less than the recipe calls for. If you have a basic 10" bunt pan and cut into 12 slices each slice has only 140 calories (less if you use splenda). Add fresh strawberries, raspberries or blackberries partially mushed up to spoon over the top and a dollop of fat free cool whip!!

It's from Babygirl43. It's a picture of her Birthday "cake". A fantastic idea if you ask me.

I am very happy to read this thread.

Today was my brothers birthday, and I had planned a week in advance for it, knowing I would have a piece of cake. Even with a piece, I managed to keep my calories at 1400 because of planning. But yikes!

How many calories in one slice of Dairy Queen Blizzard Cake? 530 .... oh, and also 35mg of cholesterol.

My birthday is in two months, so I am going to steal one of your suggestions LOL.

I was also going to suggest an angel food cake, with fresh sliced strawberries and Cool Whip lite/free on the side. You can have an entire dessert for about 200 calories...

Thank you for asking this question! My birthday is a week from today and I had been planning on making this old fashioned and really calorie dense (600 calories per slice for IF you cut the cake into 16 slices!) cake, but I don't really want it anymore because I'd rather not screw up this good trend I have going. I got some great ideas from you all!
