I think this is a huge victory for me. The other night we got back kinda late and I had had a couple of drinks and was tipsy. I knew I needed something in my stomach to help with that as I had to pick my parents up from the airport a couple hours later. Hmmm.....this was at my brothers...they had no veggies, no fruits or anything healthy (as usual). But they had a slice of pizza hut pizza with green peppers, onions and ham. At first I was like "AHHH..NO pizza!!".
Then I decided...hey, there is only one piece, I won't be tempted to eat another. So I ate it...VERY slowly. And I think it was the best tasting piece of pizza I've EVER eaten. I had fit it into my calories because I hadn't eaten much that day (to also allow for a couple drinks). That was the first time I allowed myself to do that since I started the diet. After I ate the piece, I was satisfied! Yay!!
I also don't think I would've liked the feeling of two pieces of greasy pizza sitting in my tummy. If I were at MY house, I would've had a big salad with it. This is a big victory for me, because my brother and I used to sit down and share a large pizza....we'd finish it off. Well, he usually had more than I did, but I DEFINITLY went over 800 calories just on pizza before.
A piece of pizza can work now and then--just watch out, because that can be a slippery slope. One's thinking can get a little odd, like, gee, I had one, so maybe I can have two--or maybe I can have it this week again--or maybe I can have it today--and maybe I can have the leftovers... See what I mean?
When I was starting to lose weight, I had to stay away from all those types of foods. I realize you didn't have a choice at that moment, though.
Because the subject came up in a thread here, I tried making myself a little pizza on pita bread yesterday. I figure the whole thing had about 200 calories. It was very good. The problem I had was that it was so good, I wanted more and felt hungry for the rest of the day.
Good job browneyes, I have two kids and a hubby, so pizza is part of life at my house once a week. It is really not as bad as the rep it gets IF you can control portion and toppings. I get hand toss veggie lover and like you said, i add a HUGE salad to my plate, no one else in my house adds salad, but it works. If you stay within your calories/points then why not? This is a life long thing...in my opinion, you HAVE to learn to work around the kinks...and in my life there are ALWAYS kinks.
Good for you though for opting for the one slice, instead of stopping and getting bad fast food or something. I think that is really commendable. Just remember when you do have to stop for fast food, subway is the best and taco bell (two tacos) is not bad either. Some people see those places as "splurges" but why are they a splurge if they stay within your calorie rainge? Not me, if it is in calorie range and it is not empty calories, it is not a splurge.
Those drinks will probably effect your weight loss more than the pizza. I think alcohol REALLY messes up the metabolism and if they are mixed drinks they are full of sugar. So if you dont lose weight this week, or as much as you think you should, it will most likely be tied to the drinks, not the pizza. That is just what i have experienced. I cant drink mixed drinks at all and lose. I am saving that for once i hit maintenance.
Congrats!! I had pizza last night. Disorno (sp???). Luckily I can tell myself 2 slices and put the rest up. But sometimes, it can be hard. So...yay!!!!
By the way...anyone know how many calories are in a shot of plain ol Tequila?? I had about 8 of them Saturday night. At least, I think 8 is how many I can "remember" having!!! lol.

Wowsers! 8 shots! lol...yeah, I wouldn't be able to remember much either. We went to Art in The Park here in Plymouth, Michigan and ended up at a nice bar and just had so much fun. We didn't eat anything but we definitly did some drinking. Our waitress was awesome! I know alcohol can mess a week up sometimes, but so far I've still kept off the pound I lost this week. If I only have a one lb loss this week I'll be happy because last week it was nothing and I stayed on track. Unfortunatly, I think it was because I didn't eat ENOUGH calories, I had a busy week.
I don't eat much fat at all...in fact, EVERYTHING I eat is fat free, except for my entrees which are very minimal. I had the pizza on my weight-lifting day, so I actually think it was a good choice. But...as far as my diet goes, that was eating off the diet, so I won't be doing it again very soon. I don't like to eat off my plan at all.
HMMMMM...Back on track! I love the fact that I didn't feel guilty..now had I eaten 3 slices...probably would have.
Wow.....that would be at least 512 calories!! Good thing i didn't eat much that day. I'll have to remember to definately eat light on a day i plan to get wasted like that again.

see, but you need something to soak up that alcohol, unless you don't mind being wasted for a REALLY long time. lol. The couple of drinks I had make me really drunk, but that's because I haven't been out drinking since I started losing weight and I didn't have anything in my tummy. I had a madori (sp?) sour..*I know, lots of sugar, but sooo yummy!* and a long island. I also drank a lot of water that day..probably 96 ounces or more.
That is a lot of calories, but I'm sure my drinks probably added up to that as well with all the sugar.
Agreed with JayEll, an occasional slice or two of pizza is workable into a diet plan (a slice is about 200-300 calories) -- just don't let it turn into a reason to eat too many slices, drink too many caloric accompaniments, or eat it too frequently.
Hmmm... maybe it would be better not to plan on getting wasted! The trouble with alcohol is that it lowers inhibitions... and that can mean going off plan with food, as if the booze wasn't enough.
I think pizza is workable into any diet plan... Even low carbers can make their own pizza using portabello mushrooms as the "crust" or some of the other options. I really have no interest in the standard fast food pizza chains but there is a local chain I absolutely adore... Their pizzas are probably the lowest calorie I've ever seen in a pizza, especially if you go for their veggie pizzas which is usually what we get. DH and I were going there once a week and I was still losing 1-2 lbs per week. I've started eating less carbs so that is on hold for now. I have thought of making pizzas out of portabello mushroom caps but last time I was at Costco, they didn't have any. I also don't eat much cheese so even if I did make my own concoction, it'd be a rarity.
with myself being 22 and a college student...it's just inevitable...I WANT to drink sometimes. I've held off until now because it was a fun occassion and I was out with friends that I don't usually get to be with. I didn't over-drink (which, obviously, I've done before) because I know it brings me to eat.
The portabello pizza sounds like an awesome idea! I think what I would do is marinate it in italian seasonings...grill it for a few minutes and then throw the sauce, grilled veggies and maybe a sprinkle of Low-fat mozzerella on it or maybe FF parmesean with some Red pepper flakes. WOW....I can actually EAT that and be on plan!!! Thanks for the idea Nelie!! It always helps to be able to satisfy a craving once in a while. Depriving yourself only lasts so long, and then some of us tend to go overboard. I don't want that to be me. Just like if I get a craving for chocolate I count out 16 chocolate chips...the GOOD stuff...dark bittersweet chocolate. YUM! It's satisfies, yet I don't have the bag sitting in front of me to eat out of so I eat them more slowly.
I made a pizza at home this weekend with a spelt/whole wheat crust. I usually go cheeseless but I had some leftover shredded cheese from last week that needed to be used up, I had out of town guests and we did a pizza night with them. If you just load up the crust with some sauce, garlic and veggie toppings it can be quite yummy and healthy.
Good for you on the portion control though. Usually me, drinking and pizza at night only leads to complete disaster. I have so little inhibition when it comes to food normally that I don’t need the push from alcohol!
Thing is...BEFORE I started this new...LIFESTYLE I would've said to myself "Oh well, I'm out having fun, already blew it with the drinks, so I'll just eat a whole pizza with some buffalo wings dipped in ranch dressing and maybe a few breadsticks too!!" SERIOUSLY....so for me this was a HUGE accomplishment.
MMMMMM.....garlic...I like putting roasted garlic on a baked potato with FF sour cream. YUM
