Nessa, I remember you posting a couple weeks ago that you were going off wheat. Was it because you noticed it triggered cravings?
Last night I had cut three pieces of whole wheat bread for Tom and the kids for dinner. I wasn't planning on having any, but of course as I was cleaning up they each had a bite of their bread left, so I just ate it instead of throwing it away. Not an hour later I had awful cravings!
I haven't noticed any problems with things made with wheat products, like wheat gluten and such, but it might be because I'm not paying close enough attention. I'm really going to keep an eye on this. When I woke up this morning, I didn't have any residual problems.
Does anyone know how long the blood sugar fluctuations can go on? At least if I really wanted something with wheat it would be easier if I could say to myself, "Only twenty minutes left of dealing with these cravings." I don't know if that makes sense, but to have an end in mind would help me manage better.
I'm thinking that's the direction I'm headed, too. Last week I had an issue with Triscuits. AWFUL cravings after eating seven of them with some yogurt for a snack. Last night it was whole wheat bread with margerine. I know I've had pasta, but it was only a half cup and I drowned it in sauce with soy crumbles, and I've had whole wheat pitas for lunch a couple days, stuffed with avocado, garlic, romaine, and tomato. I don't remember anything specific with the pasta or pita, but I could just be forgetting. BUT the Triscuits and bread were bad news.
Glad I'm not the only one. I might think I was crazy or something!
Kara - Just a thought, maybe its not the wheat. Maybe the crackers or bread have high fructose corn srup or something that isnt in the pasta. Consider things that may be a different ingredient than the pasta. Let us know... - Suzyq
Good idea, Suzyq. I believe the only ingredients in Triscuits are whole wheat, salt, and some non-hydrogenated vegetable oil. The bread was from a bakery and didn't have ingredients listed. I'll have to ask the next time I go in.
Me too, bread is bad for me. I can't eat just 1 slice, it tends to start an avalanche of eating. I can't seem to get rid of the hungry feelings even though I know I'm not hungry. Brown rice, lentels, beans are all ok but bread isn't. And I love my bread!<whine> oh, well small price to pay for good health.
