Thumbs down Finished week 1 with no cheats. Hate the Diet!

Help....OK I did the entire first week completely cheat free, but all I can think about is how much I hate this diet. I went through 2 4th of July parties, dinner with my parents at Red Lobster with about 1 dozen rolls on the table, Card Night with the Ladies and this Thursday is my 10th wedding anniversary. It has been a very challenging week and I know I just have to get through this week, but I can't wait until it's over. I'm contemplating going back to WW's. I Just want to know if everyone else feels this frustrated. I also can't weight myself at home because I'm a little over the limit and it won't give me a reading. That is frustrating in itself.

Can I just also add that I hate scrambled eggs at this point. My only savior has been sugar free gum and jello.

I can feel your pain. I couldn't stick with Atkins or South Beach though I know people who have done very well on both. I have found that counting calories is really all that works for me... I have a love affair with bread though since I allow myself to have it I rarely do... go figure. I'm not trying to convert you, just sympathizing. Oh, and I have a scale that just tells me OL too but I think I'm getting close...

Hang in there. You'll find what works for you. Best Wishes!

Sounds like a rough week to start your diet! I think different plans work for different folks. This one has been great for me because I have sweets issues. I would suggest you try to stick it out through Phase I at least though. I found Phase I tough but effective on the cravings. I also thought I'd never eat another egg, but I got over it. I still hate Jell-O, but then I did before also. You're doing great if you made it through that week without cheating!

I hate every diet -- I'm still trying to get over the "it's not fair I have to do this" mode!! But, you stuck out a whole week without cheating -- that tells me you are reading to drop some serious weight! I agree maybe you can try one more week and see how that goes, without all the holidays, etc. I know no matter how I'm eating, social occasions drive me crazy!! I'm personally just trying to make better choices (more the intuitive eating mode) and keep busy. Be proud of yourself, one week cheat-free is no small accomplishment!!!

If you hate it that much, why do it? Find a different program that you like better. I think you are going to have a hard time continuing with something that you hate this much. Maybe South Beach really isn't for you.

Once you lose the weight, maintaining that loss requires a permanent change to your eating habits. You want to be on a diet where you feel satisfied with the foods you are eating and you feel like you can eat that way for the rest of your life, not where you are constanting telling yourself how much you hate it.

Im not on south beach, but i really dont think this is going to work for you if your eating foods you dont like, and if you feel like this now after 1 week, i hate to think how much worse it will be after a month or so!

You need to find a plan that is going to work long term, not just be a quick fix. Nothing worse than dreading meals, that is pretty much the most sure fire wya to send me on a binge!

Thumbs down

Thank you all for your replies. I did just come from the doctor's office and saw I did lost 9 lbs the first week. I think I always feel like this first thing in the morning. My Dr. really loves SBD but also has a Carb Counting Program of her own. She's not a big fan of WW's because people get too many bad carbs in. I am going to stick to this another week to see how much I accomplish. I know phase II will be better and I don't mind the food that's on Phase I, I just feel so restricted. I think SBD allows more choices than the plan my doctor gave me also. I suffer from PCOS and think this is the one that will really help with my insulin resistance. I think I look forward to my glass of red wine on PHase II. Did I also mention when I went to my Dr's office today her assistant was walking around with a loaf of French Bread, just chomping on it. I wanted to smack her in the back of the head with it. LOL.

Hey congratulations on 9lbs and a week cheat-free! That's incredible!

I also hate eggs, and sugar free jello does get old, quick. I usually eat something non-egg for breakfast if I can (today was sausage and onions and peppers) and maybe have a hard-boiled egg for afternoon snack.

One more week and you can start adding foods back in...

I just had to comment that this is so me!! Only in the last few months have I started to accept that fact that not everything in life is fair. I've started to think of it like this: It isn't fair that there are people who are born in poverty in some countries. It isn't fair that there are people born with debilitating diseases. Compared with those things, my little slice of the unfairness pies seems pretty small. I know that to really conquer my weight issues, I need to accept the cards I've been dealt (i.e., an intense love of eating, a brain that doesn't accept when I've had enough to eat, and enough vanity and concern for my health to care) and work with them the best I can.

Cannwarren, I've never tried South Beach (although I considered it once & read the book), but I'd give it another couple of weeks. I think Phase I only lasts 2 weeks, right? Then, you can start Phase II, where you can add more foods, and I think Phase II is basically a whole foods type of diet, so you can't go wrong with that. I'd give Phase II a shot. If you don't like the way of eating after a couple of weeks of Phase II, then you may want to consider another plan.

If you hate eggs (and I really got sick of them too..)
Save a serving of dinner from the night before and eat that for breakfast...I do it all the time cause I don't eat when I first get up in the morning...

I also don't really care for jello..it's ok, but not something I'd order when I'm out. Try the peanut butter cup...it has been a saving grace for me.
Mush up a no sugar added fudgesicle with a couple of TBS of no sugar peanut butter (I like chunky) and a couple of TBS of lite cool whip..it really is good and helps with wanting chocolate and ice cream. I'd eat it if I wasn't on a "diet"...

When you get to phase II it's really not "bad" at all...just try new recipes every week and keep a lot of variety in your foods. Today I tried the Taco Bake for the first time..yum. My husband (the skinny guy) loved it too.

BTW, I'm with you on the French Bread...I'm from New Orleans and we had it with every meal along with REAL butter...so if I can resist it, you can too. I really, honestly don't crave it anymore and I've been out to eat with baskets of it on the table. I have a loaf of the best kind sitting on my counter from making po-boys for my family this weekend and it just isn't calling me. Give it some time.

Cann, P1 is tough, no doubt about it. Having a holiday fall during P1 is tough too. When I did it, I planned to do my 2 weeks when nothing else was going on so I didn't feel tempted. I didn't eat out at all until the last Friday of my second week. That helped a lot. I could make a ton of cool food at home that I liked. I haven't been to Red Lobster since I started SBD three years ago because I know I can't resist those rolls. You are a saint for getting through all that and staying on plan!!!

You didn't mention the PB cup as one of your saving graces, which makes me think you haven't tried it yet--if not, run to the recipe forum and check it out...it's divine!!!

Try to focus on your health, on making the things you miss, and on what you want out of this. If it's not at least partially satisfying to you, you won't stick with it, so make it work or move on to something that you know will work. If you're missing something and can't figure out how to make it SBD-safe, let us know and we'll all try to help. Okay?

Cann, the first week is definitely the toughest... good for you for hanging in there during such a tough week! and 9 lbs! WOW! That's awesome!

I like eggs, but if I ate them every day for a week, I'd be sick of them too! Our favorite breakfast is the flax waffles...

Flax Waffles

1 egg
1/4 c ff ricotta
2 Tbsps ff milk
2 Tbsps flaxmeal
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 - 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Plug in waffle iron. Mix egg, ricotta together till smooth. Add milk, mix. Add remaining ingredients. When waffle iron is ready, (it's okay to let the batter sit a few minutes), make the waffles as you normally would.

We serve ours with just a couple of spritzes of ICBINB and a drizzle of SF Syrup. NUMMY! Now that we're in Phase 2 we sometimes add fresh blueberries on top.

The flaxmeal counts as a nut, so you do need to watch your nut intake the remainder of the day...

If you aren't enjoying the food, definitely check out the recipe threads, there are a lot of really good options...

Hang tough... you can do it.

I totally agree.

I personally LOVE South Beach. so for me it's easy to do.

and it's become a lifestyle change.

granted I'm lax about portion sizes so my loss is about 1-3 pounds PER MONTH but that's ok since i'm in this for life....

And thank you for everyone for helping me keep things in prospective. I read through Phase II again tonight and look forward to some of the new choices.
