Default Love the Summer Produce!

I had such a fantastic dinner tonight - the starring ingredients were all from the farmer's market this weekend. I had a salad with fresh lettuce, roasted beets, goat cheese and walnuts, corn on the cob, and fresh cherries for dessert. They were all soooo good and fresh, I had to share it with my 3FC friends! Anyone else have similar great produce finds?

I have to agree. I love fruits to snack on... plums, peaches, apricots, cherries, blackberries, blueberries, bananas, I also go to the central american markets and get pineapple, mangos, papayas, apple bananas..yumm
I get fresh squash , lettuce, tomatoes( I grew some baby tomatoes), onions, broccoli. There is a large farmer's market where I live and I go once or twice a week, and find great things. I worry about winter , because I hate pears, don't care for apples and can only eat one orange a day.

I love summer produce too. There is just something special about my 8 yo daughter coming to me and saying, "i am hungry"...then she goes outside to our garden and starts picking blackberries, raspberries, and cucumbers, she wipes them off with a damp papertowel and just snacks away. Too cool and you dont get any fresher than that. Love those antioxidents.

I don't have access to a farmers market, but I do have friends that will bring me squash, tomatoes and even lettuce. I have grape and cherry tomato plants that are just beginning to bear ripe fruit. Yummy! Yellow squash and zucchini are staples for me during the summer. I eat an apple and a banana every day. I have bought peaches and nectarines when they were so ripe the smell drug you to them in the store. Cantaloupes are on sale now and I love them too! I also have a bag of cherries in the fridge.
Winter worries me too. More so with the veggies than the fruit. I'll find something yummy this fall.

Oh, the smell (and taste) of a ripe summer tomato still warm from the sun is heaven to me...

I love fruits and veggies! I like to stir-fry, steam, and roast vegetables. I eat fruit at least two or three times a day. My favorite salad of the week has been all the salad ingredients with red grapes, walnuts, and a little blue cheese all tossed in a yummy olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. I can just feel my body thanking me!

That sounds delicious!! Tonight I had fresh peas from the garden. Just plunged into boiling water for 10 seconds, then rinsed with cold. I used a teeeeny bit of butter and some salt. YUM. And to think, I used to think I hated peas. I don't ever see shelling peas at the grocery stores...does anyone else?

I picked eleven cucumbers last night - does anybody want one??? :-) I love the things, but jeez! They're out of control!

I think the best thing you can do in the winter is frozen fruit. I buy frozen blueberries and eat them like candy. YUM!

Robin - can we have your recipe for roasted veggies? Any chance it will work on cucumbers? ;-)
