Default anyone take Celexa?

Hi ladies, I have been a long time reader but don't post very often. I was wondering if anyone takes Celexa and if they gained weight while taking it? I am in a "funk" these days and I eat out of boredom. I need to find something more useful to do with myself. I am getting back on WW and I also suffer with PCOS so dieting is very hard for me. If anyone would like a WW buddy I am always available.

Thanks
Keitha

Hi,
I was put on Celexa last Sept. I had a lot of anxiety and the drug calmed that. It helped with my binging.
I gained though. The guilt from eating went away, which I liked, I felt normal. I probably gained 20 pounds from the drug and more since. I have been able to lose 20 pounds in the last 2 months with about 20 more I would like to shed.
Best to you

Hi there,

I'm on Celexa and it's done wonders for my anxiety. I also lost weight on it to the tune of about 2 stone so far (that's 28 pounds I think).

It's very effective drug, the only thing is at first I suffered with nausea as a side effect, I still get that now and again especially if I'm silly enough not to take it on a full stomach.

I hope it works out for you!

Thanks ladies. I have been on Celexa for about 5 years now. It has helped but unfortunately my weight has gone up with it too. Starting WW next week. I have company this week and it would just be to hard to do.

Thanks again for your support

You need to change your ticker Keitha!! Congrats on the 3 pounds! I have heard wonderful things about WW, I am sure you will do great!
I was 170 when I went on Celexa. I never really thought about the drug putting on the weight but the calm that came with the drug made me not feel guilty anymore. So I ate. lol
Plus I had a BF at 170 and we were eating out a lot by April I tipped at 206!

anyway,best again!!

Oh hey, you have to let us know how you get on!

I'm far too shy to go to WW but I'd love to know how it works out for you.

I really like the WW plan. I was to shy at first but this is something that I really want to do so I hide my embarassment. It isn't so bad for me. I tend to stick to the plan better knowing that I have to get on a scale infront of someone. The scales are all digital now and no one can see them. That helps out a lot. I will keep you updated on my weight loss as I start the program. I plan on keeping a journal this time around.

Thanks for your support ladies.

I've been on Celexa for about 6 months and it has worked miracles for my anxiety. I have been losing weight but I also take a steroid and I cut it in half at the same time so I really think it's the lower dose of steroid that is helping with my weight loss. I did have quite a bit of nausea but only for a week or so.

I have been taking Celexa (citalopram) for over a year, the first month was awesome weight-wise, I just wasn't hungry. Of course that didn't last. I have gained 15 lbs since then, but it is not due to the meds, just ME. I pity the fool who would mess with my Celexa! *lol*

I have been on Celexa for 5 years, and as my dose was increased my desire exercise etc diminished. I gained weight after making my WW goal. Last year, I started taking Lamictal for Bipolar 2, and it has succeeded where Celexa never could. My psychiatrist is helping me wean off the Celexa, and in the past month I have had more energy again, and no desire to just sit around and eat. My weight loss is picking up steam again.

So, although I won't say my weight gain on Celexa was caused by the meds, it certainly made me tired and unmotivated. My appetite was there with a vengeance.
