Default Cutting Hamburg Buns

I eat veggie burgers, which can sometimes be higher in calories than regular lean burgers.

So I wanted to save on the calories from the hamburg buns, which can run upwards from 120 cals (Wonderbread and generic versions).

Anyhow, I only had hotdog buns left and cut one in half sideways, so each half had a top and bottom. And while it didn't cover the whole burger ... it did the job! It was half of 130 cals ... so 65 in total.

From now on, I am going to buy hotdog buns and just cut them.

How do you all reduce the calories for things like bread if you don't have low calorie versions available?

I've never heard of a lean hamburger patty being less calories than a veggie burger. Most of the veggie burgers I buy are around 100 cals each. Aren't hamburger patties over 200 calories? I could be wrong here; I don't eat beef or pork and I rarely each poultry. Veggie dogs are even lower in calories (depending on the brand 45-50 cals for the regular size.)

As far as limiting bread (calorie wise) I've done a few things. I'll cut the veg burger in half and put each half in a low-cal ww torilla or I'll make it an open face sandwich and only use one piece of bread. I've seen low-cal breads that are only 50 cals a slice (although I normally opt for the high fiber bread), so this would cut the calories nicely.

I just take off the top bun (if not the whole bun) and eat with a knife and fork. I figure that the bread isn't the attraction anyway.

I use a slice of whole wheat bread, cut in half. I like the half of a hotdog bun idea, though!

Another option if you wanted to use regular bread (which is what we do) is use whole wheat bread.

I just use lite hamburger buns. The ones I buy are only 80 calories each.

And a veggie burger that's higher in calories than a meat burger? Do you mean like maybe one you make at home with garbanzo beans and all that? I know those can get a little pricey in the calorie department, but still..........

Yeah, but it's the fun of just picking up a big sandwich and chomping down into it!

If I don't have the calorie room, though, sometimes I'll fix one of my veggie burgers and put it on a plate (without a bun) then drizzle it with ketchup and mustard, throw some onions and sliced tomato on top, and eat it with a fork. But when I want a sandwich, I want a sandwich!
