Default Darn weather makes exercise hard

Ugh!!! I just need to vent for a second. A huge part of my plan to lose weight is to exercise more. I had planned to do that by walking. There is a park in my town with a nice walking trail. It's actually a training trail, with the various stations you can stop at and do the different exercises. (Yeah, not ready for that yet, maybe I'll add the stations to my routine later.) Anyway, I live in Oklahoma, where is has rained for the last 20 days! A big part of the walking trail is now under water. As I type this, rain is again pouring down. I know I can still go walk, rain won't melt me. But it's frustrating to think "ok, I'm ready to do this" and then have to deal with the weather. I have a Gazelle machine, but I don't feel like it's as much of a workout as walking is. Guess I'll weigh my options later and decide whether I want to get wet or just go longer on the machine.

(someone remind me of my complain about rain in a couple of months when Oklahoma has again turned to a dry wasteland.)

Same here. Oklahoma weather has become very depressing. I have been slacking on my exercise for the past two weeks. I am starting back today no matter what the weather is like. The park you are talking about sounds interesting where in Oklahoma is it located? I live in Midwest city. Is it anywhere close by? Goodluck with your exercising with our wonderful Oklahoma weather. BEWARE OF MOSQUITOS. They won't leave me alone when I'm outside.

I lose the urge when it is hot and humid. Even though I have AC, the hot air just makes me tired. Today though the weather is perfect and I will get some exercise in when I get home.

I know how you feel. We are having weather havoc over here right now.

The best advice I could give? "Walk Away The Pounds" DVDs. I absolutely love them, and they are easy to do. Good weather not required

The park I'm talking about is in Chickasha. (Ever been to the Festival of Light? That park.) I live here. Oh, and I know ALL about those darn mosquitos!!! I was helping my parents yesterday clear trees out of their fenceline and now I have bites all over my hands and forearms. Nowhere else though, it's kind of weird. I had bugspray on. Oh well, at least dragging tree limbs and pulling them out of the ground was exercise!

I totally understand, as the weather has been a little obstacle for me too.....

Here in Dubai where I currently live, summers are unbearably hot. During noon time temperatures reach 50 degrees Celsius....ufff....had to forget being outdoors during day time.
But evenings are not too bad.....well, it's still around 30 - 35 Celsius and you sweat like a piggy, but what to do, no matter what - I made it a habit to go for my evening walk whenever I have time

Actually I feel little jealous about that rainy weather you get there in Oklahoma.....we havent seen rain here for past 5 months or so......miss it lots

I understand where you are coming from, when I lived in Lousiana, it was so humid during the day and night, I became a couch potato. Now I have an elliptical machine in the house , with air conditioner, and have hand weights, a mat, and a weighted ball,so I have no excuse for not exercising. You can try freecycle.org and may be able to find free things to help you exercise.
Sorry about the bad weather, I hope it gets better soon.

Same here!! We've had over 100 degree weather for the past week, and the only day this week that is supposed to be "cooler" is Friday, 98 degrees. We are fortunate that it isn't humid at all, but hot is hot!!!

I wish we could take some of your rain away! I feel so sorry for folks in the south east and Texas/Okla areas.

I feel the same exact way. Even having the AC on, it's just different. The hot, humid weather just zaps my energy, even though I'm down almost 150 lbs. I take at least 2 walks a day. I exercise first thing in the morning and also later in the evening, when it's the coolest outside. But we've yet to hit any real heatwaves yet. I'm DREADING it. Really, really not looking forward to it.

As a lover of cool and moist weather, I live in the wrong place. It's hotter than Hades here and I don't want to be outside exercising under the blazing sun. So I take my walks at night after it's cooled down some. Last night, I didn't finish my walk until 10:30 PM and I was sweating like crazy from the heat. Ugh. I've tried exercising at home, but I find that I'm so lazy that I quit after a few minutes. With walking outside, I walk myself far enough away from the house that when I normally would want to quit, I still have to walk almost 2 miles to get home. Whatever it takes, I suppose.

It's a test!

Right now, it's a pain to walk! And it's easy to give up! But if you persist, it will be ridiculously easy later and you'll be so proud you started when it was really hard to do!

Its hot and humid here too. Last week there were days with a heat index of 108, and an actual temp of 92. Then came 3 days of thunderstorms. Today its 81, nice for July in the coastal south.
When I can't get outside to walk, it is hard for me to do a cardio tape inside. Its getting easier to do my cardio/weights tape because I don't want to mess up my routine. So on the nights that I have to do a inside tape, even in the a/c, I am dripping in sweat. When it gets tempting to quit, I look at my picture on the wall. It's only a face shot, a sorority portrait, but it's a skinnier version of me. And that drives me to release her from inside this older, chunkier version of me. I was once that way, so I know I can be that way again. I know I will not look 19....I might be saggier, lol, but I will be thinner!

I also second the Walk Away the Pounds series. I only use those for exercise and I sweat a lot. Plus there are a lot of variations she does. I love her Walk Kick. And I used to belong to a gym, but there was a time where I just did her dvds for about a month. And when I went back to the gym, I had to walk between 3.8 and 4.0 on the treadmill just to get my heart rate up, where as before I was walking at 3.3 and panting! So, that's proof they get you in shape. That would just be my suggestion. But to each their own. I hope you find something that works for you soon!

Oh, no, no - giving up is not an option. It may be harder and all, but that doesn't mean that exercise should stop. The summer is too long of a period for that. We'll just have to work through it.

I also like the Walk Away The Pounds dvds. I did them quite a bit in the beginning. The hot weather gets me so worn out though, that even IN the AC, I lose my energy - yeah, I know - I'm just weird. But again, NOT doing some form of exercise is just out of the question. Just think how much prouder we'll be of ourselves when we do it, obstacles and all.

I third (or is it fourth) WATP. You can do them inside whether it is raining or hot or cold. They're wonderful. I usually do my outdoor walking very early in the morning (5:30) before the heat and humidity get so very bad. One good thing about weight loss is that I don't get as hot in the summer as I used to. Nowadays I'm the one dragging a jacket along anytime I have to sit somewhere that's air-conditioned (and of course, everything is air-conditioned)
