Default How often do you weigh?

OK, I've heard/read conflicting things on this issue, so I'm wondering: Just how often do you all weigh?

I've read that you should not weigh everyday, as the little flucuations will possibly discourage you. I've also recently read that people who do weigh everyday are better off because they can more closely monitor gains before they become a problem.

My scale at home is awful. I can step on it 5 times, and get varied weights each time. And not just a pound or two different. I don't know what's up with it. I usually just use the one at my mom's. I'm there several times a week, so it's not like I am making a trip just to weigh. And I love her scale. It's very accurate. As of now, my plan is to use her scale and record my weight each week. I'm always at her house on Saturdays (my brother races and she rides to the track with me.) So, I think I will do the once weekly thing. But, if there's any proof to weighing daily being a better way to track, I'll break down and buy a scale. I'm just wondering what you all do.

I weigh once a week on Monday morning, but I usually cheat on Thursday and take a peek. I think you can make yourself crazy weighing too often - we all have water weight that changes from day to day. I don't think it matters when you weigh, just so you do it at the same time every week. I usually have a look on Thursday because it puts me in the mood to have a good weekend if I'm down a pound.

Well there isn't any "proof" its just what works for you. SOME people become discouraged if they weigh every day and so those people may weigh once a week, fortnight and even in some cases i've heard people say they weigh once a month. I on the other hand weigh everyday and sometimes up to five times a day - I don't become discouraged by my little weight fluctuations because the are perfectly normal. If you think you will be upset if you weight yourself one morning and see a three pound gain although you know you've been good then I wouldn't weigh every day if I were you - but if you don't care or prefer to monitor your weight every day then the choice is yours. Good luck!!

I agree with seranab. I weigh everyday and it doesn't affect me at all when I see the fluctuations. In fact, it helps that I DO weigh everyday because I chart it...and when the monthly fluctuations begin in earnest I can look back at my charts and assure myself that they're right on schedule and they WILL go away. For some people, that just wouldn't work.

I do it every day, once a day, first thing in the morning. It gives me something to look forward to as I hate waking up. It also gives me a sign that my efforts are paying off because otherwise I would never know. It'll probably be a while before I drop a size in clothes. As long as you keep in mind that it will fluctuate you don't have to feel badly about it when it happens. But like the others mentioned it's really a matter of which way feels better to you.

I do it every day, and I wish I had the strength not to. I do see the fluctuations (I'm up 0.3 pounds from yesterday and it kind of bums me out), but I also am charting it because I do want to see the fluctuations, especially around the TOM when I was stagnant for 4 days before a 2 pound drop.

I just have to keep reminding myself that this is a lifestyle change and not a 'quick fix' diet gimmick I am doing now.

I weigh everyday for several reasons. I enjoy it and I'm not bothered by fluctations, I just bought a Tanita scale that does everything and I could spend the whole day checking all sorts of percentages, and most importantly, in the past I have regained weight by avoiding weighing. Put on a few, don't want to look, put on a few more, and poof, I'm fat again. So I've made myself a promise to weigh everyday FOREVER, no matter what the scale says. I need the reality check.

I am guilty , I weigh myself everyday. When I had a week that I didn't loose any weight, was really upset, but talked myself through it, and the following week I had a loss. Sometimes I feel like why are the numbers falling so slow, I worked out and ate great, but then I talk to myself again and work through this. Now for me the scale is a reminder that I need to work hard to get where I want to, if I have a bad day( scale wise), I need to be patient and better days will come, but I do not ever want to loose it, it is part of me being accountable for this body and this life. cheryl

I have Monday as my official day, but I check other times during the week, just to keep myself on track. (that hasn't been working too well lately, but that's not the scales fault... just my attitude!!!)

What a great line - poof! I'm fat again. Isn't it amazing how fast you can get fat and how long it takes to get thin??? No one (except maybe someone who's ill) ever went poof! I'm thin!

hellokitty DON'T feel guilty about weighing everyday. IMO it's a good thing.

So yes, I weigh every single day and I plan to for years and years to come. Prior to this lifestyle change, I avoided the scale for close to 15 years. Ummm, that didn't work out quite so well. Yes, I didn't need the scale to tell me I was morbidly obese, but nevertheless, had I just been made to be more aware and more intune with my body, I think perhaps there would have been a different outcome. I need that little reality check every single morning to keep me honest and accountable to MYSELF. I never, ever want to skip even one day of weighing myself. It's my body and I want to know what's going on with it.

Though I weigh everyday, I only record on Mondays. I have learned for the most part to not let those fluctuations bother me. There's just no way that they can NOT occur. We're human beings, not bricks and our weight just has to fluctuate daily.

I weigh daily. It's totally motivating when the weight is dropping, but my mood plummets when it stays the same or goes up. Double edged sword in my opinion...

I also weigh daily. Like Robin, I had avoided the scale for 11 years, so now I feel like I will need to weigh daily for the rest of my life to keep in touch with it. I learned very quickly that I couldn't let the daily fluctuations on the scale bother me, and I don't. I find it interesting usually.

My scale can also fluctuates by a couple of pounds within minutes of weighing. I joke with my husband that I have to find the sweet spot and line the scale up on the tiles just right to get the right weight.

I weigh myself everyday when I wake up. I feel like it encourages me to keep going despite the fluctuations. Although I cringe when I know I have gained a tiny bit but it helps me monitor how much I eat and work out for the day. I think its just a frame of mind at this point.

I weigh everyday, but only record my weight on Mondays. The reason I weigh everyday is because I want to be aware of the things going on with my body, and I do not let daily fluctuations upset me. In fact, sometimes weighing everyday is a relief when come weigh day, it says I've stayed the same, but I know really I'm down X lbs because I just saw what the scale said yesterday.
