Default Hello every one nice to meet you all newbie here.

Hi everyone I am a newbie to these forums. Did a google search and found them. Basically my story is I am 5'5" 130 pounds. Ever since I was a little kid I have watched horse racing and have always wanted to be a jockey. Well I am 23 years old now and I am out on my own now so I am ready to try and fulfill my dream of becoming a jockey. The problem is an apprentice jockey needs to be about 104 pounds with equipment so that means I will need to get down to about 100-102 ish pounds in order to become an apprentice jockey. Now I know when some one is down to extreme low weights like that they can't really eat much I'm assuming they just eat all healthy things. Right now I don't really eat well at all. Some days my mom cooks and I eat whatever she cooks but other days which is more times then none I will eat junk. Hungry Man tv dinners, cookies, chips, all stuff thats loaded with fat and all that other bad stuff. I do take a multi-vitamin every day and try to go on the treadmill at the gym about 3-4 times a week. Usualy I do a walk/jog/run combination for about 45-60 minutes, however long it takes me to do 5 miles. I was hopeing you guys could help me off in the right starting direction. I found a calorie calculator on a web site and plugged in my info and the type of ercersize I do and for how long. The web site says I am burning about Total calories burned: 2307 per day. What do you guys think would be a safe amount of calories to eat a day to start loosing some weight? How many pounds can one safely loose in a week? Is 5 miles enough to do every time I hit the treadmill? Not enough? Should I run on the treadmill every day? I will work on what I'm eating I'll read around the forums more for advice on healthy foods to eat. I know some of you are probably going to say I'm nuts for even thinking of loosing such extreme weight and going to around 100 pounds but this is something I want more then anything to be a jockey. Kyle - typically, people on the boards don't have tons of advice to get people to an unhealthy weight for their height (as 100 lbs would be for your height - you'd be underweight).

If this is really something that you want to do, I suggest you see a physician about your options. There are physicians who specialize in weight reduction for athletes and healthy ways to get to low weights required by some sports, but it absolutely must be done under physician oversight. Your doctor can tell you if reaching such a low weight is feasible for you, as well as supervise you closely as you lose to ensure you aren't causing yourself any serious physical harm.

I agree with Manda, Kyle. You have to be careful with a goal like that. Definitely go see a doctor and see what their best course of action is for you. I don't think I've ever talked to someone who wanted to be a jockey. Cool! There's a first time for everything I guess! Good luck!

me neither - I've never met a jockey or wannabe-jockey...I hope you get where you wanna be, but in a healthy manner

Thanks for the information guys. Basically as an apprentice(jockey in training) I have to be around 100-103 pounds however after I am done being an apprentice and I get full blown jockey status I can be around 104-107 ish so slightly better. I will have to see a physician like you guys said or maybe see a trainer at a gym I go to.
