Default I am getting frustrated!!!

I haven't posted in awhile, but I just need to vent and seek a little advise. I started in Oct of 06 and have lost 60 lbs. I am very proud of that and think my has been pretty good. But these last 2 months have been painfully SLOOOOWWW!! I have only lost in the last 2 months 7 lbs. I know you start to slow down, I get that. But it is so frustrating to be working hard and not seeing more weight loss!! I see other things, I am in WAY better shape, I have more energy! It seem like now that I am over half way there, I am even more impatient to get to goal! Now, I actually believe I might make it and I want it now!!

THe problem I am having (I know TMI!) Is I can't go #2!! It directly affects my weightloss! I have been having the problem since shortly after I started to lose weight. I am on a low cal diet and eat lots of veggies and fruit. I drink enough fluid and never had a problem before this. Upping my fiber does not help. I was thinking of doing a detox. Anyone have experience with this? ANy ideas on what I can do? Thanks Jelly

I understand how frustrating it is. I am finding that I need to focus on those non-scale issues you mentioned: energy, fitness, etc. That being said, I STILL get disappointed when I get on the scale and it hasn't moved.

As for your concern, I would think it might be a good idea to talk to your doctor, as there could be a number of factors involved. We don't have your 'history' and can't run tests -- not to mention that 'can't go #2' is a really broad statement that a doctor would need to evaluate more fully. I don't think we're the best ones to make medical suggestions!!

Keep your eyes on the prize -- you've done AMAZINGLY so far!! Bring out your old 'fat' clothes or look at 'before' pics if you want to see how far!!!

7 pounds is not bad in 2 months..I once had a doctor who reccommended 1 pound a month!!I'll let you guess what I thought about that. I can't help you with your other problem.I think the suggestion to see a doctor is a good one.

I just want to echo what has already been said.

60 lbs is great!!! Each person is different but there are a lot of us out there just like you - I only managed to lose 3 lbs total for the month of June even though I was near perfect food-wise and I doubled my exercise. But at least we're losing!!

And I agree with the others that you should talk to your doctor. I get constipated when I don't drink enough water to offset the fiber that I'm eating. But this is an occasional problem not an ongoing problem.

Good luck with the BM problem and keep up the good work on losing weight!

Remember, there are two types of fiber: soluable and insoluable. The soluable stuff is good for your heart (dissolves in water). The insoluable stuff is good for keeping you regular (bulks up with water, but doesn't dissolve). Have you thought about fiber tablets with lots of insoluable fiber? That plus a good amount of liquid should help a little. I've had similar issues and find after a few days of consistent usage, it gets better. I eat a lot of fiber and find that isn't enough. I also remind myself that I'm not eating near as much volume-wise or fat-wise so things are understandably different.

As for the slow loss, while I agree with others that downward progress is downward progress, have you made adjustments to your calories now that you are 60 pounds lighter? Sometimes it takes a little tweaking as your smaller body no longer needs as much fuel to move you around all day.

Good luck and hang in there! I often feel frustrated and know it's a bad frame of mind to be stuck in!

In addition to adequate fiber (try a Tbsp of ground flaxseed - NOT flaxmeal), magnesium helps you go. (why do you think milk of magnesia works?)
Find chelated magnesium or magnesium aspartate and take 400-600mg before bed. You can safely take up to 1200mg daily, but boy howdy! You don't want to get too far from the toilet!

Can't help you with the, um, elimination problem, but you might try increasing your exercise, assuming that you do exercise (both aerobic and weights). If you don't, then adding exercise would help. As C.C. mentioned, you do need to reduce your calorie intake as you lose weight. And if you do both, it's usually inevitable that your body will start dropping weight again.

Jelly ~ I have been having bathroom issues for a while also. I am eating enough fiber and drinking enough water. I found that I had dropped my fat intake drastically. When I up it a bit, it helps. My fat intake range is 41 -72grams/day. When I eat toward the upper range, 60- 70g, it helps with the potty issue. Just as an example, instead of my fat free ice cream, I ate 1/2 fat ice cream. One day some nuts. This is just something that has worked for me.
If you have a good relationship with your doctors office, call them. My dr's office has a phone nurse that is a wonderful source of info.

I have found the same issue with elimination. I think part of what's happening is that there just is nowhere near the volume of intake there used to be, and my body isn't sure what to do about that. Anyway, I found a magic solution. I take a stool softener pill every other day. They are completely benign, so far as I have been able to determine. Anyway, works like magic. I started by taking one every morning with my vitamins and meds, and after a few days found out I didn't need to take it every day. I do need it every other day, however. I can find them everywhere (they're NOT a laxative! Those are bad news for me!) and get mine way cheap at Walmart.
