Lumps in protein shakes

  • Everytime I make a protein shake I get gross lumps I have tried in a blender, a shaker you name it, I have tried. Any tips?
  • What kind of pp are you using?
  • Mel, it's Whey Gourmet.
  • I've never used that. Sometimes I have small lumps in mine when I use a shaker bottle, but I've discovered that adding about enough water lowly to make a paste first, then adding the rest of the water and shaking hard cureds the problem. I've never had a problem using a blender no matter what the brand of pp.

Try using just enough liquid to moisten it all, then add the rest and see if that helps.

    Mel
  • Good idea Mel, I will try that! Thanks
  • That's a method that has worked for me in the past - for powdered milk and also for a weight gain shake DH was taking (I know, it's hard to fathom needing extra calories). Works really well.
  • I also drink mine in a cup with an attached straw, which pretty much keeps the lumps out. One will get lodged in there every so often, but I blow it back out and then shake again, and that usually fixes it. If you are adding any fruit, that might also be the culprit. I finally had to leave out the banana, bc no matter what I did, it clumped in my straw.
  • There's already a thread on it, but two words: Magic Bullet!
  • Oh yeah, or as us Macy's customers attest, Bella Cuccina or something like that! Got mine for 19.99 on one of those wonderful Wednesday sales.

Man, every time I see that name, it is not a blender that I think of!

What works for me is a stick/immersion blender. I bought a cheap one from WM for under $10, & it works quite well. You might also try varying the order you put in the ingredients; works best for me when I put the powder on top of the liquid, rather than the other way around.
